SOURCE: Sony Walkman connection problems

I had a similar problem, mine wouldn’t turn on unless I plugged it in the computer and then it still wouldn’t work!
I found this on Sony’s trouble shooter -
Cause:
Battery is 100% discharged. Therefore, PC's USB with 5V/500mA set up has not enough power to start up the charging process because loading current is greater than the set up, therefore USB is disabled immediately due to sudden current load.
Remedy:
Battery must not be discharged 100%
If it happens then the supplied AC adaptor must be used firstly because it is providing 5V/800mA power. After a couple of minutes the unit can be connected to PC without problem then it can continue the charging during file transfer, etc.
So I bought a USB adapter charger! Plugged it in and now it is working!
HOPE IT WORKS FOR YOU!

First reset yours by the Back button;

If not solved;

Reset again by the button, the On the Computer by Fat32 Format, and then Copy the Initial Files that were on your MD when you Bought;

Good luck

SOURCE: Sony walkman is not being recognized by XP as a portable device

I remembered that I had another problem with Windows Media 11 that seemed impossible to fix until I found somewhere that uninstalling or rolling back WM11 to the previous version then reinstalling fixed the issue. I decided to give that a try with this problem we're having and sure enough it worked. The Walkman is now recoginized as a Portable Device under Device Manager and in My Computer it is displayed as a Walkman and not a removable disk.

All you have to do is use add/delete software, delete or rollback WM 11 and then either use the Sony disc with WM11 or download a new version. All together it only took a few minutes and I'm back in business. No music or playlists were lost. Try it and let me know if it works for you.

SOURCE: sony walkman nwz-a816 getting usb device not recognized

okay, try plugging it in. Go to Startmenu, right click 'My computer', and select properties. Go to the 'Hardware' tab, then Device manager. Down at the bottom, you should see a section of the tree that can be expanded, entitled 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' Find the Unknown device part. Select that, then go to 'Action','Uninstall'. After un-installation, the computer might restart. Unplug your walkman. When windows is back up, plug it in, and see if that works. if not, I have an alternative solution

SOURCE: Sony Walkman not connecting to computer

I had a similar problem (my computer uses Windows XP) - Sony Walkman beeps a couple times when I insert the USB Cable that connects it, like it is connecting, but it does not charge or is not found by Windows Media Player. In my case, the way I fixed it was to:
1, Go into Control Panel
2. Double Click 'System' ICON
3. Select Hardware Tab
4. Select Device Manager
5. Select 'View' at the Top
6. 'Devices by Type' AND 'Show Hidden Devices' should be selected
7. 'Scroll down to 'Portable Devices' and open it up.
8. My Sony Walkman was there with and Exclamtion point ( ! ) in a yellow circle,
9. Right Click on this yellow exclamation point.
10, Select 'UNINSTALL'
11. Once the computer says 'Device has been Uninstalled, Disconnect your Walkman's USB cable then reconnect.
12. At this point, my Walkman was recognized by my computer, started charging, and was recognized by Windows Media Player

Hope this helps

NWZ-B105F - unit is fully charged per the display. I go to power on the player and nothing. I've tried he reset button and still nothing. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Make sure that HOLD function isn't on.

Connect it to the computer and reset it again, leaving it connected.

Check the Sony Support Web site to see if there are any available firmware updates for your model.

If possible, instead of connecting the USB cable to the computer, connect it to a USB AC adapter (if available) and try to charge it.

Hi,

The NWZ-E435F Walkman Player can be recharged by connecting it to the running Computer USB port using the supplied USB Cable.The Battery icon will get displayed and indicates the icon during charging.
However, you can try using the AC-U501AD USB charging adapter for charging the Walkman player.

CAN I CHANGE THE SETTINGS FOR HOW IT DOCKS I WANT TO PLUG INTO MY CAR STEREO USB TO PLAY, BUT UNABLE TO AS IT DOCKS

Hi,

The USB cable supplied with the Walkman Player is for connecting it to the Computer. Once you connect the Walkman Player to the Computer, it will detect it as an MTP device.
For connecting the Player to a Car Audio System, it should detect it as an MTP Device. The operations by connecting the USB of the Player to the Car Audio System is not guaranteed by Sony.
However, you can connect the Headphone Out of the Walkman to the AUX Input jack on the Car audio system (if available).

Hi,

Try the possible steps given below and check if it helps.
Remove all the connected USB devices including the Walkman Player.
Reboot the Computer and once it starts up connect only the Walkman to the Computer.
Please be sure that no USB Hub is being used to connect the devices.
Try connecting to different USB port on the Computer.
Press the RESET button located at the rear of the Walkman after connecting to the Computer.
Check if Connecting or Connected USB (MTP) message is appearing on the screen when connecting to the Computer.
Activate Windows Media Player 11 or Windows Explorer in the Computer and check if it is recognized.
After trying all the possible steps above and if the issue persists, then the issue may be with the USB Connector of the Computer or the USB Drivers. Try connecting the Walkman to a different Computer to check if the issue is with the Player.
