Bought house one year ago and washer came with home. Washer makes the clothes smell musty. I can't wash with cold b/c the clothes never smell clean. Ever other week, I put the washer through a wash cycle with soap and bleach to try to get rid of the smell. It doesn't work. I haven't noticed any problems with any of the cycles and my washer rarely sits. I ususally do 20 loads per week. What is causing this problem? Do I need to buy a new washer?
A lot of machines can suffer from this problem. It is usually down to a bacteria build up between the drum and the tub. The majority of appliances that suffer form this have been used mainly on 40 degree washes and with a biological detergent.
The best way to get rid of this smell is to place two tablespoons of washing soda or soda crystals in the detergent drawer and then run the appliance empty on the 90 degree wash. You may have to repeat this treatment before the smell goes but it will go eventually. Hope you've checked out & cleaned your filter. Leave your front door open about 2 inches after the wash; actually you don't have to keep it shut - this will help dry out the machine, and preserve the door seal.
You can give me a 4 thumb rating for the free help, can't you? Thanks
