I have a kenmore 90 elite only 8 years old When I select any speed, the agitator goes very slowly, weak movement to left and right , and has humming noise when fast speed is selected so cannot use the washing machine . Also the washer does not spin at spin cycle. I took the back panel off and noted a kink in a belt just above the pump. Could that be the problem? Thanks if you can help with this condition

Does the bottom of your agitator work correctly? We had the same problem if you pop the cap off the top of your agitator there is a cam in there with 3 dogs that engage the agitator causing it to spin. If the bottom part is agitating correctly then chances are the dogs in the cam assembly are shot. If the bottom is agitating correctly then it is very possible you have something stuck under the bottom section of the agitator. If this is the case remove the top cover (same as before it's just a lid that pops off) inside you will see a 1/2" square use a 1/2" drive ratchet with a 3" or 6" extension unscrew this piece remove the top section of the agitator then the bottom. Once the bottom is out check to make sure all is clear inside the washer. Reassemble in the reverse order making sure the lower section sits all the way down on the splines for the drive mechanism. If neither one of those solve the problem I would suspect you have an issue in the drive train of the washer.

ok take the top off the agitator there is a cap carefully remove this cap and then some have a inner cap with a handle remove that also in side the agitator it has a 1/2" or 7/16" head bolt remove the bolt and then pull up really ******* the agitator. to replace dogs you have to break the taps holding them in not the agitator be careful

you will have to access the bottom of the agitator from the back of the machine. Either you have loose bolts or else you agitator bearings are shot

make sure your pump is not clogged or jammed..that will stop the motor,,quick test,,pull pump off and start unit in wash,,or spin if unit is empty..onthejob

You have a problem with the motor coupling. Top-load washers use what's called a direct-drive system, meaning it does not use a belt but what's called a "motor coupling". I probably replace 5 a week because these little guys break because of 2 reasons that i've found.
1) The break mechanism is too dry and causing the basket to stop at a holt, which puts a lot of strain on the coupler.
2) They break because of over-loading. I don't think you're over-loading though because it was find for 5 straight years.
Good luck to you. The repair is kind of hard to do on your own for the first time, so I would call an authorized technician. It will run you anywhere between $90 to $120 at most.
Best of luck!
