Food in refrigerator freezing solid toward back of compartment

Food in our refrigerator is freezing solid in the refrigerator compartment if it is placed halfway back or all the way to the back on a shelf. Salsa, for example, is frozen solid! We had the thermostat replaced two months ago, and it seemed a bit better, but is now doing it again. Any ideas? The refrigerator is 9 years old, model mtb2456.

Food is freezing in cripers and on bottom shelf. I have also noticed that the hole in freezer drain pan does not line up perfectly with drain tube and it forms a frozen lake of ice under freezer floor (plastic tray part number 2172565). I have defrosted the frig many times but the problem returns a week or so later.

I have the same problem. I have removed the bottom shelf, chipped away the ice and cleaned and defrosted and it does it again in a couple of weeks. I tried heeping the dampers completley closed on the doors and it still hasn't helped.

Been there, done that. You need to have a new computer board installed in the fridge near the top. Ours got hit by static lightning ang blew two of them in two years. When they go out, the defrost cycle fails and Ice builds up in the freezer in the back middle. Take the back vover off in the freezer and you'll see it packed with ice since the defroster is not getting the signal to defrost. order a new computer board, install it in the top of the fridge side, in the back, above all those controls on the back right side in a white case to hold the board. defrost the ice by using a hair dryer and letting all the water drain out and get it dry. Those PC boards do not like static at all

Sounds like the damper or damper belt may be at fault. The cold air enters the refer compartment through the damper in the back. If that damper is not controled to close/open as needed it is likely stuck fully open all the time. That will let cold air in no matter what the t-stat says. See if you can view with a mirror and see if the damper "blinds" are fully open. If the t-stat is turned all the way down the dampers should close, as less cold air is needed. Then, as the t-stat is turned up, the dampers open to let in cold air from the freezer compartment. Let us know what you find and we can go from there.

Kenmore side by side, freezing my produce and eggs. Ice build up around controls in the back. Will the cost of a compresser or t-stat be worth saving this 16 year old appliance?

On our frij where the frij on top, freezer on bottom, it turns out there is a fan that blows down to keep the freezing air in the freezer that went on the fritz. Part cost $AU70, call out fee was $AU121 from Fisher and Paykel authorised service tech.

I can tell you if it can be fixed by you or if you need service. Just answer a few questions as we go through this. Pull away from wall and remove the lower panel. Feel top of compressor and see if too hot to keep your hand there or cool. Let me know if freezer fan and fan below are running. Answer those and that will help me answer your questions, Thanks Sea Breeze

We have a ge side by side and the refrigerator is freesing stuff. the model number is GSS25X SNA BS

Is it all areas of the fresh food side that are freezing your items, or is it the drawer area?

There is a direct connection (on my GE side-by-side, at least) between the freezer compartment and the drawers in the fresh food compartment. The size of the connection is controlled with a wheel or a slider. This could contribute to freezing in that area of the fresh food compartment.

Otherwise, it could be the temp sensor(s) in the fresh food compartment. If the computer thinks the temp is too high in the fresh food compartment, it will continue to cool.

It could be a problem with the motorized door that connects the freezer compartment to the fresh food compartment, located at the top of the dividing wall between the compartment. That door should close when the temp in the fresh food compartment is cold enough. If that door mechanism has failed, is disconnected, or otherwise blocked in the open position, cold air from the freezer compartment will continue to circulate into the fresh food compartment.

Food in bottom drawer of fridge freezes. what is the problem?

Try adjusting the food compartment temp. There are many possible reasons that will cause this. Look for exact model number located inside food compartment bottom door when opened. For example 91.802574 This will give us the exact diagram to work with to help you solve this. Below is a link with Q&A that you also can use to resolve this problem.

Food is freezing

usually there is an adjustment at the back for the difference between the fridge and freezer compartment. Often is just a vane that blocks freezer air, too much air would freeze the food. Normally you set the fridge thermostat for a normal food temp, then adjust the air to keep the food warmer than the freezer.
