SOURCE: 3-speed switch replaced with hampton bay switch. Only low speed works.

The cause to the problem was replacing a HUNTER fan switch with a Hampton Bay switch. Before removing the old switch, I noted and marked the color and position of the 4 wires. I then duplicated the connections to the new switch.

But the wire positions of Hampton Bay vs Hunter are not identical, therefore 2 wires
were crossed.

The correct way is to note the color of the wires with the corresponding NUMBER
marked on the switches, then duplicate this on the new one.

Du-uh!

SOURCE: The switch that controls my fan speed is in the

hi there,
that was a common problem on that fan, the chord chain was stuck on slot groove way to rotary switch inside you ceiling fan,the only way to
repair this to disconnect and pull out the ceiling fan and dismantle the housing whrere the control switch is located, b4fb3a6.jpg upon opening you can see the groove where chord chain was stuck released, possible if you can change the chord w/c is a smooth one so it will never stuck, then reassembly again and put it back, or you can change the control switch by modifying the circuit control and put it on your wall, but this is not easy job you can hire and certified technician to do this, have a good day.don't forget to rate me,thanks a lot.

How do I get a diagram for a 3 way switch

Do you mean 3 speed switch? The question says your fan has a remote! Pull chain switches are different. If you need a pull chain switch call 1-888-830-1326 with the model # of the fan.

Craftmade Ceiling Fan Problems

Make sure your fan is on high with the pull chain switch. Push the remote Hi button then pull the chain until it's on the high speed, Then DO NOT use the pull chain. Same with light , Push light button on remote then pull chain until it's on then leave the chain alone. If that doesn't do the trick then you probably need a new receiver.

Ceiling fan model 1660

Always write down which color wire goes into which slot on the pull chain switch before removing it. All I can tell you is the black wire usually goes into the L. The others you'll have to play with. Also, just because the switch looks the same on the outside doesn't mean it's the same on the inside.

Chain on a JInyou E70469 3 speed fan switch broke. need to replace switch

I have this exact Jin-You E70469 switch. Forget a replacement unless you drop about $20 on ebay. Westinghouse replacement switches did *not* work for this type of switch. Here's the solution that worked for me: CUT THE POWER and test before you touch anything electrical. 1) Diagram the wiring configuration of the switch noting where things go---take pictures. 2) Take out the wires that connect to it. Use a paper clip to spread the clips to pop them out. If you have any wires that come out and back in the switch itself, you can leave them attached. 3) See those pins that keep the housing together? Get a drill bit---or Dremel tool---just slightly bigger than the bottom of the pins. You're going to drill off bottom/rolled over part of those pins. Take it easy. LEAVE THE PINS IN. Do not take the pins out. With the bottoms of the pins ground off gone, now take off the nut that's threaded onto where the chain comes out. Now, carefully pry apart the bottom of the housing. Take a picture. Notice the position. Notice the position. Now, pry the little closure carefully just a little and replace the chain. Put the spring back exactly how it was. NOTICE the little finger in the bottom cover where the spring catches to snap it back. Put the bottom housing on. Holding the whole thing together, try the switch. If it doesn't recoil, pry it apart again, and adjust where the spring catches. This part will annoy some of you. Test again. If it pull ans recoils, you've got it. Put the nut on. Put electricians tape around the housing---don't cover any inputs. Re-insert your wires according to what you had. Put back together.

I have a 3 way fan light switch but wires don't match the colors on my hamton bay fan what wires go where i have a black wire and a brown wire and a grey wire on the switch in the hamton bay i bought...

It takes 2 testers.
699b7e0.jpg regular tester

c7b2876.jpg
Continuity tester has battery and light bulb.

Use regular tester to find Hot wire that feeds old-switch.
Remove old-switch from fan
Strip back wires
Separate wires so they can be tested.
Turn on power.
Test each wire to bare copper wire -or- to green wire -or- to metal part of fan
One of the fan wires will light up tester.
This is the Hot wire.
Mark Hot wire.
Mark which color wire on old-switch went to the hot wire.

Use continuity tester on old-switch.
You know which wire is hot-on-old-switch
Pull chain and test hot-on-old-switch to both of the other wires.
When tester lights up, mark this wire.
Pull chain again and test hot-on-old-switch to both of the other wires.
When tester lights up, mark this wire.
At some point when you pull the chain, the tester will light up both the other wires.
This is the high speed.

Use continuity tester on new-switch.
Repeat the test for old-switch.
Identify which wire will be the Hot wire by process of elimination.
Mark this wire.
Identify high-speed wire.
Pull chain again, and tester lights up on medium speed.
Pull chain again, and tester lights up on low speed
Identify these wires and match pattern to the old-switch

Our fan is going in the reverse direction...how do we switch it?

mcdevito75 here, Generally, The Fan switch itself is a pull chain type switch on the fan motor itself, this is a fan speed switch, NOW! also generally the reverse fan swtich is another shorter pull chain switch just about an inch away from the Fan Speed switch or the longer pull chain switch on the fan motor. This reverse switch can also be a toggle type or slide type switch but will be close to the fan speed switch on the fan motor itself.

How to attach an on/off chain to a ceiling light- the original broke off somewhere inside. The fan switch is intact. This is one unit.

You need the little coupler thing that connects to the ball that makes up the chain. If you dont have the coupler ... you could get one at your local Ace Hardware store ... or you could just purchase a similar switch which would have the coupler on the chain.
