Can's play VCR, get "no signal" on screen

Just suddenly, my VCR player of my GoVideo DVR4000 player does not play. I get "no signal" on the screen. I've checked all the wires in the back and they are still in the same place they were 3 years ago, no changes have been made. And yet, my DVD part of the player plays my DVDs O.K. This is strange? Can one part of the combo malfunction while the other plays? I appreciate if anyone can help me with this problem. I am not particularly tecnical-minded, but I do know a few things. Please email me if you think you can help. Thanks, Rhima

To answer your question I need to know and certify that the following steps are followed
1.connection if your dvd is playing and your vcr is not
Therefore your focus is the connection
2.use the rca or svideo output to the tv for the vcr
3 the connection wires the wires even though look good will break in replacement may be necessary
4.the signal of the vcr tape does the tape spin does it have anything on it
DO NOT ASSUME ANYTHING IF NOT TESTED ON ANOTHER T.V. OR VCR YOU WILL WASTE YOUR TIME

The control is under setup, it probably says auto.

DVD::Setup::<find caption>::<set to off>.

bewteen the double colons <::>; you have to press a button on the remote. between pointy brackets [<>], is an action you need to take.

I think that you have tried to use the subtitle button, it should say what the setting is & you usually have the ability to <cursor> [up/down for language; left/right for on/off]

SOURCE: The machine keeps stating bad disc, for all dvds

It could just be dirt on the lazer/lens. Try cleaning it with a good brand name lens cleaner for DVD/CD. If that doesn't do the trick there might be damage to the lens, or an electrical fault.
