After starting and running for a few minutes will stall when putting throttle to max and choke to minimum.
Hi, I have a craftsman backpack blower model # 316.79499. I have a problem of the engine wanting to die when full throttle also, it seems as long as the gas tank is full it will run great, as soon as it gets down to about 3/4 full it starts to bog out. This happens even when the engine is fully warm. Any Ideas?
Thanks,
Karl
I just worked on my craftsman leaf blower that would only run at half choke. I tried cleaning the carb and also cleaned the exhaust port. Didn't help. Then i took the cover off and noticed that one of the head gasket bolts was loose. Tightened the head gasket bolts and then it ran fine. Must have been sucking some air.
Hey Karl,
To me this sounds like its getting too much fuel after it has been warmed up so either there is too much gas flow to the unit or there is not enough. check your primer bulb once this happens if there is a full bulb when it shuts down chances are its getting too much gas, if its empty then its not getting enough and your fuel filter could be starting to plug up or is not in the tank properly.

All small engines take a few minutes to warm up...especially so as they age.
You have to learn to 'feather' the throttle to very, very slowly increase the gas.
After it is warmed up, you are much more likely able to rev it up...release, etc.
I've had many over the years, and this is a very common problem...that you learn how to handle.
