Will not let me go to the login page

mine can boot to 7 things, not just the first hard disk.
usb mem, sd, hdd0,1,CD, and more..
no computer stated by you of th 10,000 models. 1984 to now.
what windows, 14 versions exist.
XP? what?
when you turn the PC the booting is a serial process. (ends at windows login screen)
first it runs BIOS< ROM,
the BIOS ROM, runs POST, (self tests and Plug and PLay)
then BIOS jumps to the first thing in the list (boot order)
and boots to the HDD #0 (default ) F9 key I can change that.' on the fly...
so first is what:?

1. if a laptop get that bad main battery out first, now
2. use AC power pack only, NOW. lap or desk top.
3. does the PCs fan run? (my desk top has 4) if not, power is bad.
4. does the CD eject? (button) if not power is bad.
5. does the screen ever show text? like Hit ESC to enter SETUP?> as it did every day since new?
6. if yes, good, no bad. (bad CCFL lamps>)?
7. yes, then see if ESC works, F10 , F1 info page work in BIOS.
8. yes, good, see , now you can boot to 7 things if want.
9. but if the HDD is bad, you cant boot to that. if its bad.
10. we run HDD test no as shown on the HP page on topic.
11. then we try (2006 and newer) the F11 magic recover method.

if the PC is older than 2010, it can in fact have bad CCFL lamps
even PC that are desk tops , the eternal monitor same.

Okay provided the USB U created is bootable insert it first then restart and press the escape button. U should then come to a boot option screen if there is a + sign next to the hard drive option. expand it and choose the USB hard drive to boot from it ur files should start to load.

A common problem!
Try these tips if you are Win7 or Vista. Some will work in XP also.

Disabling GUI files to speed up the boot process.

1 Click Start and type MSCONFIG in the search box. Press enter.

2 When the system configuration loads, click Boot tab.

3 Locate the No GUI tab and check it.

4 Click OK to close the configuration tool.

5 A smaller window may pop up asking if you would like to re boot your computer now or later.

Close any open files and click Yes.

When your computer restarts, the System Configuration tool may load, notifying you of the change.

Click the box "Don't show this message again".

Reboot your computer and a second or so will be saved as the system no longer has to load unwanted pictures.

Windows 7 is similar to Vista as the programme files are loaded in parallel, unlike older versions that loaded in series. Thereby saving boot time.

Another save is to disable Windows Home Page Sound. That will stop the system from loading up to 600k of unwanted noise.

1 In control panel select Sound. Click on Sounds tab.

2 Uncheck "Play Windows Startup Sound"

Disabling unwanted hardware devices will save processing power allowing more power for other more important tasks like math processing of formulae, (Games!).

1 Click the Start Menu, type Devmgmt.msc and press enter.

2 When Devmgmt.msc has loaded browse through your devices.

3 Devices that you don't often or ever use can be disabled by Right Clicking the device name and selecting Dissable.

4 To re enable the Device, repeat the last line and select Enable.

This can save an awful lot of processing and therefore time loading programmes that you want, not rubbish that is not required.

Disabling unwanted Fonts.

Windows loads over 130 diferent fontsw when it starts up. Only a handful are used. On a regular basis.

Go to the font directory, copy it to a USB stick or CD in case you require any that you remove by mistake and place them back where you got them from. Adobe uses some odd fonts sometimes!

I recommend keeping:

Segoe, Calibri Common, Veranda, Arial, Trebuchet, Tahoma, Times New Roma and Ms Sans Serif. Be sure to keep the variants of those fonts.

I have used a very simple way to rest admin password without erasing anything. Follow the instructions: 1.Download the software from

3. Pop the CD into your locked PC, and boot from the CD. You can login windows and reset your Password.
The whole process took only a few minutes.

I think what that means is it does not recognize your hard drive. If you are trying to install Windows 98 you should format your drive first.

How far does it get in booting. Do you see the Windows screen with the side scrolling bar before it reboots. During the boot process, start hitting the F8 key once a second until it drops you into a menu where you can select to start in Windows with safe mode. If you cant get that far, hit the DEL key a few times a soon as you boot the computer to try to go into your BIOS. If you can get into either of these, I may be able to help you.

Although this is almost always a hardware problem, pinpointing which hardware is the culprit can be a tedious task so before making any hardware changes, assume first that this may be is a software problem. Assuming that you have Windows XP installed as your OS. You can try fixing your system with System Restore. To do this, turn on your PC and press F8 during the boot-up process. Select Safe Mode and login with an Administrator Account. A pop-up window will then prompt you to enter Windows in Safe Mode or just Restore your system by using System Restore, choosing NO will automatically open up the SYSTEM RESTORE window. Choose a restore point (a point or a date where your PC worked well before having problems). Your PC will reboot with the configuration set on your selected restore point. If this doesn;t solve the problem. You can try fixing your system using your Windows XP installation CD. Just don't forget to set your CD as the first boot device.

Hello, first try to get into Windows Safe mode. To get into Windows 98 / ME safe mode, as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 key" on the top of your keyboard or press and hold the left or right Ctrl key as the computer is booting. If you can not find any problem in Windows safe mode or you can not boot safe mode you have to reinstall windows. To reinstall windows you can use a bootable floppy diskette.

A current version of DirectX should install that file. Check for your version of DirectX by clicking on Start-Run, type dxdiag.exe, then click on OK. When the DirectX diagnostic page loads, you should be able to see the DirectX version you have installed. If you are not currently at DirectX 8.1 or higher, and because you have Windows 98 and an unknown video card, please download DX 8.1 from the link below: DirectX 8.1 Runtime for Windows 98 and Windows Me There is a newer version but there are no guarantees that your current video card will support it.
