Goal Seek Solver and Sceanerios are a Part of What if Data Analysis Tools.
Goal Seek find the Expected Change in terms of value to a calculated Items.
For Example if you have a sales data for the year 2007 where Profit is 350000 and you want to make it 500000 for the year 2008 so what changes you will do in Product cost or Product Price this you will find with Goal Seek. It is also known as Back calculation. It has some restrictions which is overcome by Solver. But before doing this type of calculation use Sceanerios to store different Calculated values using Goal Seek and Solver. You dont have to add these values in different sheets all the values stored as a sceanerios. so You can show different Predections to the customers without moving around the Sheets.

Manual

You have two ways to solve an equation in the TI83PlusTI84PLUS
  1. The solve( command the syntax of which is solve( expr, var, guess, {lower_limit, upper_limit}). Here expr is the expression (without =0), var is the variable you solve for, guess is you estimate of the solution, lower_limit and upper_limit are the bounds of the domain where you are looking for a solution. Of course your guess must be between theses limits.
  2. The Interactive Solver.
The solve( command
  • The solve command is accessed through the catalog of commands [2nd][0] (CATALOG).
  • Press [LN] (S) to let the cursor jump to the first command that starts with s.
  • Scroll down to reach the solve( command.
  • Select it and press [ENTER]. The command echoes on main screen.
  • Enter the different arguments: expr, var, guess, etc.
  • Close the right parenthesis and press [ENTER].
  • Wait for the solution to be displayed.
The interactive solver

Press [MATH][0:Solver]. You see what is on the first picture (I entered K-0.5*V^2). Press [ENTER]. You see what is on the right picture.

In the interactive solver you enter a value for all the parameters, constants, for all, save the entity you are solving for, here V. So you must clear the 0 to the right of the = sign after the V. when finished you press [ALPHA][ENTER] (SOLVE).
Here is what I get for the small exemple I chose.

Left -rt=0 shows that the root was found to within the calculator's tolerance.
As to the manual, you can visit the education.ti.com to download it

My solver is giving me the wrong answers

Hi,
I have no way of knowing why it is giving you wrong answers. If you have an idea what the answer might be, you should use this knowledge to help the calculator find your solution, either by giving a better guess (initial value) or by restricting the domain of values, instead of -1e99 and 1E99.

It is also possible that you may have set up the problem incorrectly. For this reason I am describing how to use the Solver and the solve( command.

Solver mode in equations part of calculator

Your Solver is a numerical solver not a symbolic one. You have to supply an initial guess at a solution and the Solver finds it. If you suspect, or know, that there are others jut run the solver again supplying the initial guess for each additional solution.
One easy way to locate the roots of an equation is to draw the function (without =0) and see on the graph the approximate values of x where the function vanishes. These approximate values of the roots can be used as initial guesses in the Solver.
