I have a Kenmore gas dryer Model #73932. When I push the start button, It starts but stops as soon as I let go of it. I opened up the control panel, and see nothing obviously wrong. I understand this may be as simple as replacing the start button, but don't know how to troubleshoot it. I need a detailed answer I have some electrical testing tools, but don't know how to use them. If the solution is too difficult or expensive, I will simply replace the dryer, but I hate to do that. Last year I replaced the heater components myself, but don't know how to tell what is wrong electronically. Please help! Thank you.

What you describe is either a failed evenheat board or a failed motor relay.
Please post the complete model number from the machine and I can help you narrow it down. There should be a wiring diagram inside the console with voltage checks also.
Thanks/Mike
SOURCE: Kenmore Dryer won't stay running
if the thermal fuse is bad the dryer won't run at all, or it will have stopped heating completely. more likely this is a unit with a power control board in the console. these were very known for the resistor on the board burning out which can be checked visually. i've had at least 6 or 7 of these do that exact same thing. hope this helps.

Hello.

You said,
When I purchased my house 2 years ago, the sellers left the
washer and dryer for me. They informed me of a problem with the dryer's
start button not wanting to stay pressed in. They said their solutions
was to use something to keep it pressed in and so I started using
shipping tape for this purpose. Last night it finally stopped working -
something behind the button is obviously broken (the switch). While
looking for a replacement switch and an on-line service manual, I came
across this site. I did order the part from Sears today and will
attempt to repair the problem myself. If I cannot, I will buy a new
dryer before I pay a tech $60+ to repair a 6 year-old dryer.
I did
not have the model number when I called Sears but did have another
number off the back of the dryer which was for the "panel control" and
the number is 3979018. The sales rep did some cross-referencing and
said I own model #11072932100. I was wondering if you can direct me to
an on-line service manual so I will know how to replace the switch when
it arrives.
Here our sponsor's site to fine what you asked me for, a service manual!

Door switch If the door switch or the door-switch actuator is defective, the dryer won't work and you need to replace the failed component. The switch is inside the dryer main housing near the door frame. Sometimes you need to raise or open the top or front of the dryer to reach the switch.Check online for the part repairclinic.com has it for $14.00 not bad

Usually answered in minutes!
I just checked and if I hold the switch in, the dryer runs but does not heat.
Could you please explain your answer in more detail. Why would the door switch cause this problem and how can I check to see if it is? Someone else was talking about the motor being bad and in reading old answers to the same question, I found all kinds of things people said were the problem. I am hoping that your answer is the correct one. It sounds simple and inexpensive.
Thanks for your help.
