I've had my LGDVT418 for just over 3 years now. Last week I put a CD cleaner in my DVD player and now I'm having problems. You can hear it trying to turn the DVD's but it seems like its not getting the right amount of turning speed on the disc to display the picture or something. You can hear it spinning the DVD's, but it sounds like its not spinning them fast enough. It will play CD's but not DVD's. Now here's the weird part, if I put a DVD in it that I haven't watched yet it will play that disc. But any DVD movie that I've watched prior to putting in the CD cleaner disc, it will not play. I'm not ready to buy a blue ray yet as they still don't have digital tuners in them. Any suggestions on how to fix this promblem or where I can buy just the DVD player would be greatly appreciated. If there are other LG DVD players that are compatible with the speakers for the LGDVT418 that would also help.
I cleaned mine as well and it wont read anything. It spins up the dvd then slows down then spins up again over and over I cleaned mine as well and it wont read anything. It spins up the dvd then slows down then spins up again over and over

I have a somewhat similar problem, but wasn't after a cleaning disk use. Most of the time when I try to use this system now, after I put a DVD in, I start getting a loud buzzing noise (almost as if gears are meshing)

The DVD play part has probably had it. Try putting in a CD cleaner disc (a special CD with nylon brushes on it) if you want to spend time on it, this can fix some dirt on lens problems. I would just go and but the cheapest supermarket DVD player to replace it, why the cheapest? because DVD/CD players never last very long before they fail like this.
no, your dvd drive has gone bad. to check if it is working or not your try to manually open the content of the cd and try copy on the hard drive. if it copies fine then the cd is good if not cd is bad. you might get a error message of bad sector or data randomization. if it does not open at all the cd drive is bad. Sir to clean the optical lens remove the cover of your unit but be sure to unplug the unit from ac outlet, you will see the dvd rack assembly it has a top cover if you remove the top cover you will see the optical lens, use a cotton buds to wipe the optical lens but very gentle when wiping the optical lens because it has a very small wire it may be damage and be sure not to touch the optical lens, hope this help good day and best regards.
I would give it a good cleaning with a disk player cleaning. Those disks have little bristles on them that "sweep" the lens and clean it real well. Remember that if the lens is so dirty that it won't play any DVD you may need to run that cleaner disk a few times to get the lens back to normal working condition.
A lens cleaner disk should be ran one time a week to avoid problems with playing disks be it CD or DVD or Computer.
Sometimes players go bad so keep in mind this could be the problem as well but I have had the DVD player in my garage get so dirty I had to clean it a few times to get it to work normal.
I imagine you have checked the disk for scratches top and bottom, if so you can purchase a cd/dvd lens cleaner cdrom as the laser may need realigning and cleaning.
just open the player (4-6 screws) and clean the lens. I had a similar problem (plays VCD, CD but no DVD - tray will open immediately).
It worked afterwards
I cleaned mine as well and it wont read anything. It spins up the dvd then slows down then spins up again over and over
