Boombox repair The boombox plays a while then goes off, says no antenna conected, you can wiggle and push the antenna plug and get it to come back , in alittle bit it goes off again. No antenna connected. How to seperate the case and see if the antenna connection is loose or what!
I got the boombox open this way. Remove the specker cover on each speaker, the mesh screen. Remove other screws, not the ones that hold the speakers. You should be able to now get the cases apart. BEFORE YOU DO THE ABOVE, take a q-tip dipped in ALCOHOL and clean the antenna plug in the boombox and also ion the antenna cable. If I had did this first, it would have saved of unnecessary time & work. This fixed my problem.I got the boombox open this way. Remove the specker cover on each speaker, the mesh screen. Try swapping the boombox antenna with the car dock to see if you get the same problem. If yo do, you know the boombox is bad. Otherwise, its the antenna and you just need to get a replacement.
Check the antenna plug in in the back of the unit ! There is a very fine wire that sticks up in the middle of that jack ! It is very easy to bend it over losing a good solid contact to the antenna ! Also these things run very hot ! Carefully remove the speaker grills and the two screws they cover. Then you can open them up and drill cooling holes in the housing to let them shed some heat !
After dissassembling my subxr2, I have come to the conclusion that the issue with my antenna not being detected is in the female contact of the antenna's plug, not with the connector in the box (as I expected to find). I have not yet verified this by trying a new antenna. Here is how to dissassemble the box in any case.
Very carefully, with a small very flat screwdriver, remove the front grille of the unit. There are 8 additional screws set in deep holes that need to be removed. Once done, the front panel will pop right off.
The inside of the case is a mess of wires. You do not need to disconnect them if you do not want to.
Pry the grill off the bottom of the box. Remove the 4 screws that hold in the speaker. This will allow you to move the speaker that is in the main body out of the way.
The antenna jack is _not_ a part of the circuit board. If you look into the box, you will see a rectangular cut-out in the edge of the circuit board. There is a wire with a silver connector that is held in place by 2 screws. Remove those screws and you are now holding the antenna jack.
maybe the amplifier inside is failing if you turn it all the way up for a second and it comes on then it is the amp but if you wiggle the vol and it comes on the its the vol switch
how did the speakers sound ?
Here is the fix,Thanks to all of you for your detailed comments I found an easy way to repair the boom box. Many of you said that if you pushed down on the radio hard it would play so I tried it and I too had the same problem, but since it is impossible to stand all day holding the radio and get anything else done I figured if you can't lower the radio raise the plug! Here is what I did, first unplug the radio so you don't short anything out, then at the front of the plastic plate the radio plugs into gently pry it up with a lock blade knife (as a rule kitchen knives are too flexible) then get a small self tapping screw (the smaller the better) and screw it into the gap made by the knife the radio will now play without any problem!
