Not normal at all ...Either there is a defect in the gas manifold / ignighter ..shut off the gas supply to the stove and unplug the range.. Call the repair agent.

SOURCE: oven will not lite

Replace the oven ignitor. IT probably still gets red but it has to draw enough current to open the gas valve and yours isnt. Replace the ignitor and it should fix you up.

SOURCE: GE XL44 gas range, oven dial doesn't have "lite"?

Set the oven for the desired temperature. It will cycle on and off at that temperature.
It will lite automatically.

SOURCE: small oven explosions

check and replace your gas regulator to your burners in your oven

SOURCE: Our glow bar lights up when gas oven is turned on,

Typically the issue here is a weak glow bar (hot surface ignitor). When they weaken they open the gas valve slowly and it takes a bit for the ignitor to light up the oven burner.

It is a safe bet that you need to replace it.

What causes a loud bang from oven?

If you hear a loud bang the SECOND time you try to light an oven, it means you've just had a small explosion when the gas from the FIRST try ignited outside the heating tube. I would have a professional check your oven before using it again.

My GE oven takes a long time to lite. When it finally does there is a small explosion sound. I already replaced the ignitor 2 weeks ago. It worked fine for about 1 week and now I have the same problem...

If the gas valve is opening in a reasonable amount of time then the problem isn't with the igniter and you don't need to bother testing amp draw... Could be a number of things, clogged burner ports near the igniter, incorrect air/ gas ratio, incorrect igniter position (too far away from the burner), incorrect gas pressure. If you can, watch the burner when it lights from a safe distance and see if both sides are igniting at the same time or if it just builds up gas until BOOM! Ha ha, hope you figure it out, be careful.
