How do i download the manuel for panasonic camcorder model SDR S45

You can't transfer videos through USB. You will need a Firewire 6-pin cord and use it to connect from your MAC to the Camcorder. Only then you can transfer videos.

This camera will only work with the latest version(s) of iMovie (08 and 09). I'm not sure, but you may need an Intel-based Mac also/too. Any previous version (for example, iMovie HD, aka version 6) will NOT work with this camera out of the box.
There is a workaround. You will need the MPEG2 Playback Component for Quicktime from Apple ($20) and a free program called MPEG Streamclip. I also use OS 10.5 (Leopard), and this has worked for me. Once the component is installed, drag the .MOD files from the camera (it will appear as a disk on the desktop when you plug it in and turn it to "PC Connect" mode) one at a time into MPEG Streamclip. Then export them to the DV file format, which is what iMovie uses. Depending on the length of the clips, this can take a fairly long time. Good luck.

You can connect to any computer with a USB port. It appears as a hard drive after you tell the camera to connect (in the menu). Then just copy the .mod files to a spot on yor computer; there will be one for each movie clip.
Your next chore is changing them into MPEG files at the correct aspect ratio. If you shot in 16:9 they will be squished together unless you use the SDCopy freeware utility to set the widescreen flag. It also renames and downloads files for you, and it's small. There's a link from this tutorial page, which also explains a lot about aspect ratios and such:

I have the same problem. What I will do is download the camera to a DVD recorder using the A/V cord which came from the camers. I purchased AVS4U program for $59 lifetime option with free frequent updates. I can down load the DVD to the computer and I can format them in about all possible formats eg WAV, MPEG 2 etc. I can edit the songs, etc to how I want them. I do this with live performances of our band "Charlie Horse Band" and I can record the whole set (up to an hour) and I can manipulate the final product with the editing functions of the many AVS4U products that come at the one price.
Hope this helps!
