Acer Aspire Am3470g case removal

How do you remove the front panel and remove mesh screen on an ACER Aspire AM3470 desktop computer to add an additional DVD drive?

  • Anonymous May 06, 2012

I have to get the cover off both sides of my ACER Aspire to add or remove a dvd drive. The one side slips out but the other side cover includes the top also. Any ideas to get the side/top cover off?

This chassis also has two buttons on the side to pop the drive I have and the one I want to install. What do these buttons tie to.

I also have an Acer Aspire AM-3470G & just swapped DVD drives trying to troubleshoot a problem. Remove the one side panel with the finger tab that gives you access to the system board/HD's, etc. No need to remove the opposite side panel. With the panel off, there are 3 black plastic tabs holding the front cover on. Release them so that the front panel pivots to the opposite side which also has 3 black tabs. Those tabs will release themselves as you pivot the front cover. You may need a bit of force to pivot the cover so be careful not damage the plastic tabs. You'll now have complete access to the DVD tray area. The DVD is held in by 2 exposed screws, there are none on the opposite side of the drive. Unscrew them, disconnect the power & SATA connectors & slide out the drive. If you replace the DVD drive, test the new one before you reassemble all the covers to verify everything works.

SOURCE: acer aspire 5102 with philips sdvd8821 dvdram drive

alright. bubul78, your post is in no way shape or form a solution for the problems given by other users. I too have a acer laptop with the philips dvd drive in it, device manager detects the dvd reader and says it is running with no problems. i can hear the drive read the cd when inserted, tho when trying to access the drive through my computer the window hangs at the hourglass for a min or so, then says please insert a cd. only solution is that something is physically wrong with the drive. ok so solution found, replace the cd drive. but where is acers sight to order replacement parts? poor site navigation in my opinion.

How to remove front panel to repair the front usb ports on an Acer Aspire E380 -?

The front USB connectors are usually either molded into the front case or held in via a clip or screws. Unfortunately, when they go out due to the tab within the USB port breaking, they are not easily replaced as each manufacturer creates their own proprietary connector...not the USB part but the hardware to hold the USB in place. So you will find the hardest part of this project finding the right connector or "jerry-rigging" the new one to fit.

Another alternative is to remove everything from the old case...the mainboard, all the drives and whatever else can be moved, and put it into a new case. If your current power supply is good and of a standard size, etc...you can get a used case for around $10.00 and put all the other things from the old one in it. Fortunately, this series of Acer seems to be pretty much generic so everything should fit....just make sure the "new" case has good front USB ports.

remove it from power source, open up the casing and you will see a jumper with CLR CMOS.remove the jumper and replace it on the next terminal.wait a few seconds and return it to the normal position you found the jumper on.
power up your machine, you will have 2 reset the date and time after though.

good luck

I bought a Acer Aspire Am3470g-uw10p it came with no re-install Cd's, Is there anyway to restore this computer without using a CD.

You need to get a recovery CD for your model laptop from Acer.
Download the recovery CD and device drivers from the Acer WEB site. Make sure you select the model of your laptop the drivers you that require that matches the Windows version that is installed on your laptop. Use this link to get to the Acer support: -

The 'second door' you indicate, sounds to me like the metal rectangle that is left in the metal framework, of the computer case.

With the Front Panel removed, the metal rectangle should have holes, or a hole in it, or slits.
A metal screwdriver is used in the hole, or ****, to pry on the metal rectangle.

Usually at the Top. The top edge is pried out a little, then pushed back in. The metal rectangle is worked back, and forth.
This procedure is done to work on the tabs holding the metal rectangle in place, and break them.

W-A-T-C-H the edges. They can be SUPER sharp!

How do you get the case of an Acer Aspire am3900-u3802 apart to gain access to the drive bays to install a new cd drive?

On most towers, the plastic front panel has to be removed from the front. The CD Drive could then slide out from the front.
