On line search should give you a manual, almost all are available, simple search and you are done.

IBM R40 PXE-MOF:exiting boot agent opreating system not found?

This appears to be an indication of a failed hard drive. During the bootup process, your computer looks for bootable (accessible) devices including your hard drive, external drives (if any) and then any other possible mediums like network attached resources. If the hard drive is not available then this would explain your situation.

My ibm thinkpad t40 starts up but comes up with the message "initilazing intel(R) boot agent version 4.1.07 PXE 2.1 build 083 (wfm 2.0), rpl v2,74, what does this mean and how do i get windows 2 start

It means it's initializing its boot agent - most IBM have this feature. Press F1 on start up to go into the bios and then use the settings for start or boot up options to turn it off. If you simply wait - it will go away and windows will start normally anyhow when it is finished.

PXE-E05: The LAN adapter's.....

The machine is attempting a network boot. You need to enter your BIOS setup program and change the settings to disable network boot or set it as last in the boot order (depends on the specific BIOS of the machine).

IBM T22 Thinkpad won't boot up - not even in safe mode

either you have a virus or a corrupted dll file.
eitherway, beside create a bootable CD or Floppy disk, and try to fix from there, thats' time a money.
the next best thing, is to reinsall the operating system.
the other option is get a new hard drive and install the operating system on that so you can preserve the data you have on the old one.

How can I boot from USB in a Thinkpad T22?

I assume with "boot menu" you mean the BIOS boot menu (the one you get to if you press F12 during start up, before the Windows screen appears.)
  1. Go to "Enter Setup"
  2. Go to "Config", click "Enter"
  3. Go down to "USB", click "Enter"
  4. Make sure that "USB Bios Support" is enabled.
  5. (Hit "Enter" again and choose between "enabled" and "disabled")
  6. Hit "Esc" twice to go back to the main page.
  7. Go down to "Startup", click "Enter"
  8. Choose "Boot"
  9. Check if "USB CD" is in the list of boot options or excluded form booting.
  10. Hit F10, confirm any changes you made (click "Enter" for 'yes') and reboot.
  11. Tap or hold down F12 again and you should see the boot option menu again.

Note: I am not 100% sure if you can boot from a DVD externally.
I booted from the internal DVD drive fine with a Linux LiveCD. It is possible that the T22 BIOS does not support external booting. Check you version - the latest release from IBM is version 16ET32WW (1.12), release date 06/03/2004. You find that info here.

I would really appreciate if you could come back here and leave a comment, so I (and maybe others?) can learn form this ;-)

Good luck!
