My in car charger broke and my Tomtom went flat. I tried a different charger but to no avail. I have since bought a new in car and mains charger and the unit will not take a charge. It will turn on when plugged into the mains but the batterry strength symbol is extremewly low and flashing, and this after more than 24 hours charging? Please help!!
It appears that the battery will not hold a (good) charge anymore. If it is still under warranty, contact TomTom to address that problem. They may replace the unit for you.
It is not unusual for (rechargeable) batteries to loose it's capability to hold a good charge if it is plugged in (to a power source) all the time, even while it is not in use.

My 510 was doing the exact same thing.
I called customer support and they helped me get it working again.
866-486-6866 is the number but here is what they had me do.
I had to push down the reset button for 15 seconds (the reset is in a small cut out near where you plug in the charger on the bottom.you will need to use a pin and you will feel the pin push in the button if you have it in the right spot.)
Then release the reset and hold down the power button for 10-15 seconds. the screen should come right back on.
If you need more help I suggest calling the 866# they are very helpful.

Might be the contact of the charger. That's my fault after years of usage

It sounds like your mini usb connector is damaged or one of the components near to it. If you're handy you
can buy a replacement and solder it in. You will need a very fine tip
soldering iron and a magnifying glass. The repair can be quite
challenging as the components are surface mounted. If it's a damaged component near the USB connector that is damaged then this wont solve the problem.
I can fix it for you for a small fee if you dont want to attempt repair.
I've repaired about 20 tomtom units with similar problems. I charge around £35 for this including return postage

Mine does the same, the light comes on on the charger, but not on the TomTom unit itself. There is clearly a loose connection in the cable somewhere as you can twist the flex and make it work, although this is not very reliable.
I just use a USB charger from an old phone instead.

Hi Guys, many thanks for your input. I've tried your suggestions and unfortunately they haven't worked. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thanks again, Jim.
