Why can't you change the bios setup to change the boot order or boot sequence?

Also you can change the boot order or boot sequence temporarily by just rebooting the laptop then watch the screen for which key it says to hit to change the boot sequence or boot order, then hit that key when you see the message.

SOURCE: Boot sequence / bios password issues with Acer Aspire 5100

The finger print bull is how that password came up for me and they want a 125.00 to remove it. I called the better business bureau and filed a complaint. They shouldn't have any right to control your laptop. I to have a 6292 , took it apart as far as I could and could not find jumper or password. This is a gimmick to make money.

You are going to need a boot up partition manager likeon the Ultimate Boot CD (ultimatebootcd.com). Boot to it, go into the partition program, then set the active partition back. Thanks and please take a moment to rate as fixya.

SOURCE: cant install xp to dell c400 with external cd-rom

This is how I did it, you may or may not have the ability. A basic knowledge of Dos is necessary 1) I used another laptop but you could use an adapter to use the hard drive in a regular computer. 2)boot with a windows 98 boot disk, fdisk it to a fat32 partition, make the hard drive a system boot disk (format /s c:) 3) copy the i386 folder and all its contents from a full or full oem (not branded) disk to the laptop drive, also copy smartdrv and highmem.sys from the floppy (speeds thing up dramatically) and create a config.sys file with device=highmem.sys 4)physically install the hard drive back into the C400, boot to dos run smartdrv.exe, then go to the i386 folder and type winnt.exe (enter) wooo should work. How do i restore my acer laptop to factory

Select models have the ability to have the operating system reinstalled from a hidden drive built into the netbook. To start the Acer eRecovery:
  1. Tap the Alt and F10 keys togther during Power-On Self-Test (POST while the Acer logo is being displayed).
  2. When prompted with a boot screen, hit the Enter key.
  3. After the Acer eRecovery program has loaded follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.
If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails during the recovery, recovery of the operating system will need to be from Acer Recovery Media. In order to recover the system using Acer Recovery Media an external optical disc drive is required.
  1. Press F2 to enter BIOS Setup during Power-On Self-Test (POST while the Acer logo is being displayed).
  2. Arrow over to "Boot".
  3. Ensure that the external optical drive is plugged into a USB port.
  4. Refer to on screen instructions to set the first device to "USB CDROM".
  5. Press the CD-ROM drive eject button and insert the System CD.
  6. Close the CD-ROM tray.
  7. Press "F10", then press "Enter" to save the changes and reboot the system.
  8. The netbook will boot from the Acer Recovery Media, follow the prompts to reinstall the operating system.

Setting new hard drive up on acer 5315 series

Hi,
If the Back Up Disk you mean the 2 Recovery Disks that you have burned from the eRecovery in Acer.

You have to enable D2D Recovery on the BIOS Setup, it's usually on the second page of the BIOS Setup on a Acer Aspire Laptop.

I have an Acer Aspire 3000 laptop that has been giving me problems. I tried to do a system restore but it will not boot up off of the CD. I have tried F8 but and that gives me a number of options but...

Hi Lindsay,

That's too bad about your system.

First, what kind of problems were you having as the reason for wanting to perform a system restore?

If your system will not boot off the CD, then it might not be #1 in the BIOS order. Try this:

  • Power up your Acer system.
  • When prompted (after memory testing completes), press CTRL + ALT + ESC to enter CMOS setup.
  • At the CMOS Setup screen select Advanced BIOS Features
  • Verify the Boot Options Sequence is set to the following order:
    1st [CD-ROM]
    2nd [Floppy Disk]
    3rd [Hard Disk]
  • Insert the Acer System CD, DISK 1 in your CD-ROM drive.
  • Press F10 to exit and save. When prompted, Do you want to save CMOS data?, select [Yes], then press ENTER.

Watch you screen during boot up. It may tell you which key or keys to press to enter setup.
