Hello! I have a Dyson DC17 and I am having problems vacuuming over our new carpet. It is a new carpet with a thicker pile than we previously had, but it seems like something more may be wrong. It feels like I am trying to push it through wet sand when I try to use it, even on thinner area rugs. Any suggestions? I've checked the small belt in the front which is intact. And the bar does spin manually.
Hi Julie,
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your DC17 on this particular carpet type. I'd encourage you to contact the carpeting manufacturer for advice, as they should be able to recommend the best way of cleaning it.
If you'd like any further assistance with your machine, please email us on [email protected], or give our customer Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766.
Best wishes,
Jack

The suction is so great that it sucks up your carpet, then nothing works. I get my children to stand on the corners/edges of the rug so that it stays perfectly flat on the floor while I vacuum. Or, you can turn off the brush roller (set it to "hard floor" setting). Or, tip the vacuum cleaner's front up slightly while vacuuming, to reduce suction.

Sure, on the side of the machine you will have a knob, you can use this to tuirn the brushbar off and have suction only.
