Made loud popping noise while watching and then TV turned off while temporarily displaying a colorful thin line across the middle of the screen horizontaly.
TV will only turn back on for a moment and then red light on the left, front of screen flashes every few seconds. There aren't suggestions on the manual as to why this could be happening.
Do you think this is simply a lamp that needs to be replaced? If so, how do I get to it on the TV. The TV is 4 years old this month.

Probably vertical output IC451. I just changed one and is working perfectly now. On CRT tvs, loss of vertical drive will result in a thin white line across center of screen. In these projection sets the vertical and horizontal are fedback and used for convergence. Loss of vertical will cause shutdown same a power supply failure.
I can't tell you how to fix this set, but I can tell you that its not a "lamp" issue as this doesn't have a lamp. Its a 3 picture tube projection TV. the three tubes are in a red green blue format, and average about $175 for each one, not including the labor to install them. your problem, may not be the tube, but just a power supply problem, but there is a chance it is.
