If your AF motor is hunting then the lens probably needs to be looked at. I wouldn't recommend this as something to do at home so you will need to either find a repair shop if it is out of warranty or return it to Canon if it is in warranty.

SOURCE: Auto Focus not working for Canon EFS 18-55mm lens

This usually happens when the contacts between the lens and the camera are dirty. Try taking the lens off and cleaning carefully the metal contacts on the camera and the lens. If that does not solve the problem, you can get a warranty repair or replacement since that camera should still be under the original 12 month warranty.

SOURCE: Auto Focus not working for Canon EFS 18-55mm lens

I see this same problem occuring all over the internet on Canon lenses. Autofocus not working any longer. For some stupid reason the lense will lock up and quit autofocus while other lenses will work fine. A light pull on the lense focus ring away from the camera body will give a noticable pop or click which unlocks the jammed lense. Try it if you are having troubles with your autofocus. This is a very common problem and worth giving it a try.

SOURCE: Hello, We have a Canon

I've seen that before and in my experience it's usually due to the autofocus motor going. Your best bet would be to contact the Canon Imaging in your country and see what they suggest you do.

Your 100mm lens autofocus not working.it may be due to autofocus flex cable inside the lens damaged. It is replaceable part. You may have to contact service technician. However when you switch to manual mode it should focus & click. Try it.

Autofocus is activated by pressing the shutter button halfway, be shure to have a EF lens in the camera, otherwise it won't make autofocus, put camera on full auto mode or "sports mode" (the running guy) and the focus settings on redictive AI Servo AF: Continuously tracks subject movement and achieves focus before the exposure starts.

Ef 50mm f/1.8 II not auto focusing

You need to send it in for service. The more you use it with the "noise", the more you are potentially damaging the auto-focus drive mechanism of the lens. The sound you are hearing is most likely the gears and whatnot grinding away at each other because they were knocked out of place by the impact of the fall. I don't know how much this will cost, but I would say somewhere in the $200 range would not be unbelievable. Sorry I don't have any good news, but I have "bounced" a lens or two in my time.
