IDE (PATA & SATA) drive does not need any drivers. You just have
to make a partition and format your drive for using.
Please make sure whether you had partitioned and formatted.
First of all, you must partition and format for recognizing the new
drive in the Windows Explorer.
Within Win98 series, please use the Fdisk.
Within Win2000 & Win-XP, please use the Disk Management.
When installing Win2000 or Win-XP, the installation process

SOURCE: Hard drive replacement
SATA drives are the latest hard drives available nowadays. You could try going online and checking other sites that could still have an IDE hard available for sale.
SOURCE: cannot access hard drive
You can try full formatting the harddisk and run scandisk and defragment the disk.Hope this would solve your problem.

Unless the motherboard in your system is different from the one shown on HP's site, the answer is no, you can't install the drive. At least you can't install it without additional hardware, which I'll describe in a moment. It looks like this board only has SATA connections for drives, which is becoming more common. So there is no conventional (i.e., old-fashioned) IDE connector for the data cable used by your Samsung drive. There's no place to plug the in the drive.
What you'll need if you want to use a parallel IDE drive is an expansion card like this one. There are many similar cards; I'm just using this one as a sample. The card installs in one of the PCI-E slots on your motherboard, and it provides the IDE connection you need. In addition to the card, you'll need an 80-conductor ATA-133 IDE cable.
With SATA drives, there isn't the master/slave designation since each SATA device has a direct connection to the motherboard. With the parallel cable, you can have two devices connected, so one needs to be designated as the master and the other one as the slave. The master is the drive connected to the plug physically at the end of the cable, and the slave is the middle plug. When you install your Samsung drive, set it for "master" or "single" drive as required. Some drives have a special jumper setting when used alone, while others need to be set as master even if there is no slave drive present. The jumper settings are usually marked on the drive, or you can check at Samsung's website.
Hope this has helped. Thanks for using Fixya!
