My washer is just about a year old. After the first few weeks, we began to nice a really bad moldy smell coming out of the washer. I dug around and found a bunch of socks that has gotten stuck in the lip of the seal. They stunk and were moldy so I pulled them all out (and threw them away). Then I ran the washer with bleach (emtpy) and sprayed the entire seal with X-14. The smell went away but it's back! We've tried more bleach cycles, more mold remover stuff and we leave the doo open...it still smells like mold! And, now there's mold growing (black spots) on the rubber seal. Help!
Same problem---moldy smell, especially in towels washed in the machine. My son has the same problem and lives in another town so I know it is not the water. The wash does not smell bad but when it gets wet (ie.when you dry after a shower, it smells moldy. I have used bleach washes and it still occurs

The machine is one month old and the smell is horrible. I was just told by the Sears Repair Technician this was a common problem with all front load washers and we must use a product called washer magic or affresh to resolve the problem.
I noticed my washer smelling bad after about one month. What I have been doing is leaving the door open after I remove the wet laundry. My guess is that being a front-loader, the seal doesn't let any air in like a top loader. You've then got moisture left in a dark place with absolutely no air circulation. Anyway, I have had no problems with smell since I starting doing this.
After you wash take a dry rag and wipe boot all the way around and use a-fresh
Wash on hottest and longest cycle with regular laundry soap and a bottle of vinegar. After cycle, wash again with soap on hottest/longest cycle. This will clean your washer like new.
