Slanted picture!! Hi, The picture on my television set is slanting down to the left (as if the right side of the TV is raised higher than the left, but its not of course). The TV is perfectly level so I know it is an internal problem. Can anyone help with this?? Please let me know. Thanx.

This problem might be caused by an external magnetic field. Most modern Sony tv sets have a picture rotation control. Go to the setup menu and select Picture Rotation. Your user guide will explain.

Convergence lines are SLANTED. Red line is above

Your TV most likely a convergence failure. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

0667c5f.pngSOLUTION

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.

Convergence lines are SLANTED. Red line is above horizontal center on left side on screen and below horizontal center on the right side of screen. Also left of Vertical center at the top of the screen and...

did you check the six 3.5 pico fuses that are next to the ICs? They will often be open ( blown) when the ICs fail. Also check the two 5 amp IC protectors on the G board as those protect the two ICs so its possible they have blown also a 5 amp pico can be substituted for the two IC protectors.

Picture slants right to left

Hope you have fixed this problem by now, if that tv is unserviced, I mean if nobody has ever opened it, it could be a problem with the positioning of your tv, just tilt the tv in different positions and find out the position in which it will show the right fit. If it is serviced, especially yoke is changed, this is rare, it could be because the position of yoke is not aligned properly.

Slanted picture

Your deflection yoke (a coil around the neck of the picture tube) must have gotten turned. Your can turn the picture upside down by rotating this coil. If your set is in warranty, you should return it. When this "yoke" is adjusted the color is affected too. If you try this yourself you'd void the warranty and mess up your color. Stargazer
