Suspect bearings. With door open wiggle the top of the silver drum If it moves up and down inside the tub, replace the bearings

  • mike cooper May 17, 2012

It's quite an involved job! It involves removing the drum from the tub. The bearings are on a spider on the back of the drum. It can be quite costly, and I would probably suggest a new machine may be a better option, selling the old one for spares (timer control, pressure switch, pump, motor, etc,if all working)

SOURCE: I have a Hotpoint WF440

this definatley bearing trouble. its one where you can fix yourself ONLY if your willing to take up the whole day doing it..
The problem with bearings is that once you get to them, it can be tricky taking them out of the shaft because they can crack and leave the outer shell of the bearing in the machine.

if you wanna try it your self then i have a similar solution you can use posted for a wma. the only thing diffrence is that its easier than the wma..

SOURCE: Hotpoint VBSR2080WOWW washing machine vibrates with loud noise

hi,
this is a generic problem with top-loading washing machines. when the distribution of load is not uniform, it gives sound when spinning. if it produces noise even after equal distribution of clothes, the problem lies in the suspension. this is not a major fault, and can be put up with, rather than spending dollars on fixing it. this will in no way cause any special wear and tear for the machine.

When on spin mode the machine makes a terrible grinding noise and won't spin on 1200 speed Hotpoint Ultima WT965 7kg

Turn drum by hand, if you feel it catching, its something between the drum and tub, put in through soap draw usually by children. Can be removed by taking out the heater element to get access under drum.
If it feels rough all the way round when turned and it can be lifted up slightly ( free play ) then its probably the drum bearings and seal failed.

Hotpoint aquarius wml760 noisey when spinning with stuff in but ok empty

more than likely the rear bearing has gone bad and when a load is applied the difference in weight distribution causes the knocking.

Hi my hotpoint washing machine is near 3 years old the last few weeks it is making a terrible noise when on spin only. \r\nthe noise is really loud but everything is washing and drying the same its just...

Sounds loike the main drum bearings have failed.
Spin the drum by hand from the front, and if it feels rough, or is rumbling or grating, then the main bearigs have failed.
Quite an expensive repair, unless it is covered by the Hotpoint 5 year parts guarantee, check with Hotpoint.

Need to replace the bottom weight on a hotpoint wt965 washing machine. When on full spin it makes an extremely loud banging noise and then the other night a piece of concrete fell off.

The concrete balance wieghts are replaceable, but you need to make sure the fixing points on the drum are o/k, as sometimes they fracture or wear, and if this the case, then you will have to replace the outer drum.
Please rate my comments.
Thanks.

Roper RAX4232KQ0 maker loud noise at spin cycle and then stops

There are a few things that can go wrong, If the washer doesn't adgitate or spin then probably the coupler is broken, lean the washer back and look under the machine between the motor and transmission you will find the coupler. (very common)

Coupler Part# 285753A $22.95

If its agitating but not spinning, check the lid switch, (easy check just listen for the click when you shut the lid, Or you can bypass it with a jumper wire under the console there are only 2 screw that hold the console down they are philips and either located in the front lower corners or the back lower corners)

Lid switch Part# 3949247 $42.95

If lid switch is good and the motor still doesnt run you might have a bad timer (RARE)
Timer Part# 3954563 $95.95

If you can hear the motor running but its not spinning and you have rulled out the coupler then your probably looking at a clutch (common problem) either the clutch isnt grabbing or the brake isnt releasing both problems solved with the clutch kit

Clutch kit Part# 285785 $44.95

Worst case your looking at a transmission, (uncommon) to rule out, make sure its agitating, then put washer in spin cycle. look under the washer to see if the clutch bell is spinning. if its not then you will need a transmission.

Trans Part# 3360629 $172.95

if its making loud noises when it stops spinnig then the block is bad.

Block Part# 389140 $14.95
