I can not change the flash setting on my camera

I'm sorry that the flash on the Camera is not working. If the Forced flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting is enabled, the flash will still not work in the following circumstances:
  • When shooting MPEG movies
  • When shooting in the Twilight or Handheld Twilight mode
  • If shooting with the Burst or Multi Burst mode
  • Shooting with Sweep Panorama
  • Shooting with the Fireworks or High Sensitivity mode.
  • If an external flash is connected
Please make sure that the Camera is not in any of the above modes.
Try initializing the Camera. To initialize the Camera, please use the Initialize option under Main Settings 1 Menu of the Camera.

How do you repair when the flash in DSC-H3 is not responding?

Hi,

Check if the Flash unit in the Camera is popping up automatically.
Check if the Flash is set to Flash Forced Off. If it is set to Off, then set it to Forced On.
Please check if the Camera is not set to the following settings:
REC MODE is set to Burst or Exposure bracket mode.
Scene Selections modes like:
ISO High Sensitivity mode.
Advanced Sports Shooting mode.
Twilight mode.
Fireworks mode.
Set the flash to Flash Forced On when the mode dial is set to M or when Landscape mode, Beach mode or Snow mode is selected in Scene Selection mode.

This should resolve the issue.

Hi,

The flash in the Camera can be enabled to Flash Forced ON by pressing the Up Arrow control button on the Camera. Press the button continuously to select the desired settings.
Make sure that the Camera Mode (REC MODE) is not set to Burst or Multi Burst.
Flash will not work when the Camera is set to ISO High Sensitivity mode or Twilight mode in the Scene Selection.

Hi,
Let's try some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue with the Flash in the Camera. The Flash in the Camera will work only with the settings which is selected.
1. Make sure that the Camera flash is set to Forced Flash ON. (Press the right arrow control button of the Camera continuously to select the Forced Flash to ON.
2. The Flash in the Camera cannot be used when the REC MODE of the Camera is set to BURST or EXPOSURE BRACKET. (To select the REC MODE, select Menu button in Camera Shooting Mode. Set the REC MODE to NORMAL).
3. Flash will not work with modes like ISO(High Sensitivity Mode), Twilight Mode, ISO+(Extra High Sensitivity Mode), Fireworks Mode.
4. Try to set the Flash Mode to Flash Forced ON when the Mode dial is set to M, Landscape mode, Beach Mode, and Scene Mode.

This will resolve the issue with the Flash in the Camera.

I can't figure out how to set my flash to "force flash" aka fill

Turn the setting to M or manual, and push the flash open. You will have to set the camera settings yourself though.

FORCED FLASH NOT WORKING

Hi,I know some of the common things for the digital camera. I want you to try these.

-------->If the built-in flash does not function, then the camera may be set to Auto and will only flash when taking pictures in poorly illuminated environments.
-------->Set the camera to the Forced flash setting so it will flash regardless of the surrounding brightness.

IMPORTANT: If the Forced flash setting is already enabled and the flash is still not working, then the issue may be due to another camera setting. Even if the Forced flash setting is enabled, the flash will still not work in the following circumstances:

* When shooting MPEG movies
* When set to the Twilight mode
* If an external flash is connected

The information above should resolve your issue. However, if the issue still persists, you can try resetting the camera to factory specifications.
Some cameras have a RESET button built into them or a menu option to reset the camera to the default settings.
Refer to the instruction manual supplied with your camera for specific information regarding the availability of a RESET button or menu option to reset the default settings. Otherwise, continue with the manual reset procedure below.

1. Turn off the camera.
2. Ensure the camera is not connected to an AC power adapter.
3. Remove the battery from the camera for 15 seconds.
4. Reinsert the battery.
5. Turn on the camera.

If all the above fails you, then i doubt that Impact damage would have caused the flash not to work.
But i know you are not going to like this solution. No other way , you have to contact Nikon service centre for repair.

i hope this helps to fix your problem.
Thanx for using fixya.

Flash forced off

THESE CAMERAS DO NOT HAVE A AUTO POP UP SOLENOID TO OPEN FLASH. THIS HAS TO BE DONE MANUALLY WITH THE BUTTON TO THE LEFT OF THE FLASH.
