I have the same exact problem with my X42! I contact tech support, and they're sending me a replacement cable for free. If it's a new headphones, it's still under warranty.
When I get the new cable, I'll let you know if it fixes the problem.

I had the same exact problem with a brand new x32 headset. right out of the box it was echoing for my friends. Also, if I muted my mic it would kill the chat volume (ie barely even audible). I switched the voice to play through speakers and it worked flawlessly after that.

Not sure if it is a hardware issue with my controller (my other headset worked just fine) or if it is a defective cable I received, or a design flaw with the x32. If you are looking for a work around, try setting it to play through speaker.

SOURCE: I can Talk and hear game sound but i cant hear game or party chat

You probably kinked your controller cable. That will cause the mic to malfunction. You should purchase a new controller cable on TurtleBeach's website. They are only $4.95.http://www.turtlebeach.com/products/efx1a/replacementparts.aspx
Also make sure you have the Xbox Live settings on "Play through headset"

When playing Halo Reach online I cant hear any friends in custom playlist. This is both in game and in lobby. If we join a chat party then we can hear each other fine though. When in matchmaking I can hear...

Depending on which type of chat session you are connected to... everyone needs to be in the same chat menu. Sometimes when switching from game chat to party chat you might still be stuck in game chat while others are in private chat or visa versa.

To talk to only players in your game: Press the Guide button, then select Party, Party Options, Chat Channel, and Game Chat.

To talk to only members of the party: Press the Guide button, then select Party, Party Options, Chat Channel, and Party Chat.

To mute an individual: Press the Guide button, then select Party, the player's gamertag, and Mute.

It is a possibility that you are not in the same chat session with your friends. they might be in a party chat with others while you are in game chat. (note you can only have a max of 8 people in one party chat) Or you might still be in a party chat (that everyone else has left) and they are in game chat.

My Turtle Beach Headset P11's are brand new, everything is plugged in correctly, as I can hear my friends talking when in a party together, however when I talk they can barely hear me if they can even...

Double check that you are all in the same party. If you are not in the party and they are you will sound very quiet to them. It almost sounds like you are in the background. So go and make sure you can join the party. If that does not solve it go into your settings and double check that mic volumes and everything are all up.

My friends can hear me through xbox live party chat but i can't hear them through my mic. help please :)

Theres is a loose wire in your headset most likely. Try plugging it into another controller just to be sure its not the controller. If there is a loose wire there is not much you can do other than buy a new headset.

My friends can hear me when i talk into my turtle beach x1's, but i can't hear them. Why?

If you set the Xbox Dashboard > Live > Voice setting to "Play Through Speakers" can you hear the others talking to you? If the chat talkback works that way, but doesn't work when you have it set to "Play Through Headset" then you probably have a failing chat-controller cable. If you replace that, the problem should be fixed.

Playing Halo3 on Xbox 360 Live... can hear other players on headset but mic doesn't seem to work. Turning mute button on wired headset on and off makes no difference. I do have a little circle with line...

Here's my best idea. Join a party on Xbox LIVE with a friend. This will let you communicate outside of Halo 3. If they can't hear you when you're in the party together, then it's your headset.

To have a friend join a party, go to your friends menu and select a friend. It will then give you the option to invite them into your party. Good luck!

Every time i go into any live chat it echos for ever and never stops it unbearable i don't use them for chat ever my friends can't stand it

I found this on the Turtle Beach website: __________________________________________
If you or other players hear echoes in Live Chat:
Does it happen if you use the Microsoft communicator? Mute the microphone on your headset. Does the echoing stop? In the Xbox Dashboard > Settings > Live, set the voice to Play Through Both and unplug the talkback-controller cable. Does the echoing stop?
Echoing can sometimes be caused by high latency ("lag") on your internet connection. This may come and go depending on how much bandwidth is being used in your area.
If your talkback-controller cable's plug gets dirty, this can also cause echoing or static. Also check the input jack on the controller and make sure no foreign objects are in there.
Read these links for more advice:
Echoing can be caused by "a poor connection between the headset and the controller." http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912493 "The most likely cause is either a plug that isn't pushed all the way in, or gunk on the plug." http://xboxelle.spaces.live.com/Blog/cns!1pUP4M-J1d781v7Ac0Ta8FDw!158.entry "If you hear echo, then... someone in the chat session... needs to clean off their metal headset plug." http://majornelson.com/archive/2005/12/25/get-rid-of-voice-echo.aspx

H700 Echo Problem.

Each party needs to keep their earpiece (listening) volume at the minimum level that is audible to reduce chance of feedback. Also, look to see if there is an encryption on/off option on the phone...this could be causing an echo in either state due to interference...try switching encryption on/off. Also, check your update options on the phone, you didn't say which kind of phone it is but some can get firmware updates that may be needed for bluetooth to work well. Finally, you may get results by deleting the device on the phone and re-adding it thru discovery.
