Sounds like the screen is going bad. Isolate the problem by plugging an external monitor to the laptop. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker to plug to the laptop. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the Borrowed monitor does not show the black lines and snowy background, that proves your video card is ok and the problem is your lcd screen. If the borrowed monitor shows the same black lines ans snowy background it means your video card inside the computer has the issue.

The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

before you spend $200 for a new lcd screen; may I interject; Please test your computer by hooking it up to another monitor if you get the same result; place your computer in the freezer for about an hour then start it as this model of computer is famous for overheating the nvidia video chip also the tiny fluorescent tube called a cold cathode has beeb found to glow red when about to fail the cathode can be purchased onlin at: laptoppartsdirect.com or, e-bay almost always the only reason to replace you lcd is: breakage or, bad pixels.

SOURCE: hp pavillion dv9000 won't boot. tries to start,

There is a Limited Enhancement Program that includes this model. If you are in the US call 1-800-474-6836. If you are outside US check the HP.com website and search for the Limited warranty enhancement Program.
This is normally a video chipset issue that is embedded in your MB. If your notebook is part of the program, hp will shoulder the repair cost for the MB replacement.

Sounds like the NVIDIA chip. I had a guy on ebay fix mine a month or so ago for a real good price but I wasn't able to find the listing to give you the information.

Check the cable going into the back of your monitor and the cable from your monitor into your computer, one of them is most likely loose.

My phillips 2006 hd tv has a black line across the screen with a snowy freeze

If you have parallel horizontal black lines on a white background, you can see the separation between the lines when it is viewed at close range (Figure 1). As you view the lines from further and further away, the image gets smaller, you eventually get to the point where you can no longer see the separation between the lines, and it looks like one line. Losing the ability to see separation in the lines is exactly what happens when you sit too far back from an HDTV set. If we apply the same principle to an HDTV, a 1080p resolution HDTV has to fit 1920 vertical and 1080 and horizontal black lines separated by the white space on the screen, (that is the pixel grid of a 1080p HDTV display). Furthermore the spaces between each cell of the grid need to be very small in relation to the area each cell occupies, or you will get a screen door type effect. A bigger HDTV can increase the size of the cells and the separation between the cells, so everything doesn't run together when you sit further back.

Getting colored vertical lines on the screen of my hp pavilion dv9000. I've come across this a couple of times and was able to fix it by pc recovery. Not this time. I'm getting the virtical colored lines...

Typically you are looking at a hardware problem here. Vertical lines typically indicates there's interference in the video stream received on the display, or a problem with the panel itself. You might be able to open the device and try to reseat the ribbon, but you risk destroying the device in the process if you don't know what you're doing.

Hp pavillion dv9000 lcd screen changes colour when moved

The inverter is to change the volts from the laptop to the Backlight. This wont have anything to do with it.
Im more than certian it will be the LCD cable. Proberly loose or torn at where the lid closes.
Hope this helps.
