Phillips Magnavox 9P6040 C104 tv color adjustment help

I have this tv but the white of the ice (watching hockey) is yellow and I can't seem to get the color adjusted right. The user guide I found online only has instructions to go through, which I did, but still the white isn't white and movies that are dark on a regular tv are black and I cant distinguish anthing in the picture. Is it just going bad and won't be able to adjust the color?

If you turn color off and stand back and examine the screen---if it is not black and white but yellow looking you have bad Glycol in the blue picture tube which is quite common.

Easy way to know for sure is with set on and rear cover removed peek with a small mirror at the three lens---don't touch anything with the set on===each tube red, blue, green should have a picture with the set on.

Likely you will find the blue one looks like a floodlight with little or NO image/picture.

SOURCE: blury picture, convergance problem

What you're describing is probably contaminated coolant in the crts. Between the outer part of the crt and the lens is a chamber filled with a coolant (ethyl-glycol) which can become contaminated and cause blurred picture. I'd strongly recommend taking this to a shop the procedure for changing these is a bit beyond the layman level.
Remove Crt assembly. Mark the Crt lens position for accurate reasssembly.
Mark the centering ring's postions to make easier realignment and carefully remove lens assembly by removing the four torx screws. Keep Crt assembly vertical so you won't leak the fluid...
Remove the inner lens by carefully prying up on the edge of it.
Dump out the fluid in the sink and wash the face of the Crt and chamber with water to remove all the fungus and crud. Flush the chamber with isopropyl alcohol to kill all the fungus and dry thoroughly.
Reassemble inner lens and outer lens and tighten all four torx screws.
Remove side filler plug and fill chamber with approved new Crt coolant, reinstall and converge.
Repeat this procedure for the other two Crts. It will need this done whether it looks clear or not !! The green and blue Crts in this unit are prone to this failure.
Hope this helps

The problem is an aging tv. The small signalboard needs reworked. Send it to PTS elctronics for repair. It will be guaranteed work. Tell your local tech.

I have a 60in phillips magnovox rear projection tv model number 9P6040 C104. The green power light comes on but I have no video/audio. And it makes a chirping type sound. Could someone please gice me some...

Your problem seems to be convergence. This has to do with the video/ audio. If your Tv has no video/ audio and make a chirping sound when you turn on the TV, the problem is within the convergence chips. The symtoms you describes gets to the heart of your tv issue. However your tv can be fixed and it does not have to cost you an arm and one of your legs. If you think you can tackle this repair by doing it yourself then I suggest giving it a go. You can order the kit (audio/video)repair kit/chirping. The cost is reasonable, $68.00. It comes with all the replacement parts and thorugh instructions to guide you through the process. Give it some thought if you think you can fix the tv, if not have a professional do the job. Good Luck.

I lost my picture I still have sound but no picture.

I have a Philips Magnavox Projection TV.

I had dish satelight install on my TV. It worked well for two days, then the picture started showing in a square box. I ffixed the convergence and it seemed okay. The next day I turned on the tv and it had sound, but no picture. When I press the status button, the picture would come on then go right back out. Now I don't have any sound or picture. Here is the model information:

Brand: Philips Magnavox
Model #: 9P6040 C104
Serial #: 51190366

Manufactured: Nov. 7, 2000 (3910K071H)
TV Receiver Listed: 347K E10839

Can someone please, please help me!

I have aMagnavox 9P6040 C104.The picture is extremely poor.

The problem is the fluid in the Blue and Green CRT's needs replaced. ( ethylene glycol ) It not something you should attempt if you've never done one. The average price with most shops is around $250.00, and your other concern, there is no auto convergence on that model. It's all done by remote in your menu and in the service mode, but that's not your issue, just get the fluid replaced and your back in business. Have a nice Holiday Weekend.

Color on projection tv 9P6040-C104

The cooling fluid in the CRT's need to be replaced. This is a common issue with NAP projection TV's. The old fluid needs to be drained then the CRT faces cleaned then refill with new fluid.
