I seem to have pressed the play and eject buttons on my system and the display showed Lock then Demo Play. There is no disc in the tray.
The manual says consult a service centre when the display shows this. I got my system in May from the US and I do not have a Sony Service centre in my country.
Is there a way to rectify this problem?
Right the problem for me was that it was in demo mode. play + stop key press resolved my problem after same key press to remove player from demo mode and switched off then play stop to remove from locked mode.
I have waited 2yrs for this solution!! Thanks Fixya!
While the demo is playing you must press "Play"and "Stop" buttons, then display shows DEMO OFF and you can now take the DEMO CD out. In some models you need to turn off the power and turn it on while pressing the EJECT Butoom. SONY SPECIALIST

From Standby press function, whilst holding function press power (both on the main unit).
The display will show demo mode, this has now disabled the mode.

I found this on the PROSCAN website under customer support manuals. The website is www.oncorpus.com.I hope this information helps you with your problem. IMPORTANT THE LABEL SIDE OF THE DVD MUST FACE THE BACK SIDE OF THE TELEVISION 1. Press the ‘INPUT’ button to select ‘DVD’ mode, if no disc is inserted yet, the display shows ‘No Disc’. 2.Insert a DVD with the printed side facing towards the rear of the TV/DVD Player (see below) 3.The TV will first display ‘Loading’, then change to ‘DVD-video’. Most DVDs will show some preliminary information then stop at a main menu screen. 4. Press PLAY/PAUSE to play it directly. Or press the DVD-MENU button to access the disc menu during playback. 5.Use the direction button on the remote control to select the desired option. Press ENTER to select the option or press the ► button. Playback will now commence. 6.After playback, press the EJECT button on remote control or EJECT button on TV/DVD to remove the disc. Note: No function‘’ will sometimes appear on the screen after a button is pressed. This indicates that the function is not supported at the current time.
Just try to initialize THE plager again.
Without cd in the player switch on the power while pressing the Play, Open and Next Track button.
On the display it says " initialized" Ready.
