Vertical, pencil-thin blue line appears after 10 minutes of viewing (any source)

This TV is about 20 months old and the problem first began about 3 weeks ago. After about 10 minutes of viewing, a vertical line appears. It originates at the top of the display, 3" from the left edge and extends down approximately 1/2 the height of the screen. The line is about the width of a Sharpie pen and blue color. The line appears in both broadcast and DVD source material. If the TV is turned off for several hours, the line will disappear temporarily. It's very consistent. I discussed this problem with Hitachi customer service. Other than checking and cleaning the control cable connectors that tie the AVC to the display, they're only advice was to call a service center.

Thanks for the input. I knew it was beyond me after disconnecting and reconnecting the power didn't work! I'm just trying to figure out how serious it is. And, is it a generic problem with this model that the manufacturer should be stepping up to the plate for?

I'm following another message board of Hitachi owners. This issue has been noted by several posters. Last word is it is a "buffer board" in the panel. I'm waiting word back from one individual who is having his repaired. I will forward his solution here after we know for sure.

    2/1/07 Update:
I called the service center as recommended. They informed me that the problem is likely to be the "buffer board". It is a PC board also known as a "mapping board". Bad news. Even worse. The service center believes the panel itself is bad. Hitachi does not agree and asked me to follow through with the repair agent. He is coming today to get it. Will let you know.

I would suspect a connection breaking down as the set heats up. A shop will probably have to put the set in a stand to hold it while they check for loose connections or defective components inside. Not a DIY job by any means. If this line went completely through the picture either vertically or horizontally and stayed there then this would have indicated a failure in the Panel itself. A thin Line any where on the screen consisting of one pixel in width is a Panel Failure according to Hitachi.

Maybe they're talking about one of the "Bus" boards. I can find no mention of a Buffer board in the service manual for this set. Hopefully, when someone gets the set repaired, they will be kind enough to give a part number or location that will enable others to get a quick fix to this problem.

If it is a plasma TV, may be the bad connections, you can try to reconnect the cables on the Y-buffer board.
If it is a LCD TV, the panel may need to replace.

Had this same issue on right side of 52" about 1 inch from side but had 3 vertical lines that disappeared after 40 minutes. Have Samsung LNT5265FX/XXA and about 16 months old. LCD Panel itself had to be replaced to fix it, fortunately had extended service plan

I have a Sony Bravia KDL-32v2500, 16 months old, a thin vertical green line has appeared just off centre. It is on all channels and all input sources. Any suggestions?

If it still under warranty, no cost will be there, but if its out of warranty, you have to pay to Sony (might be they give you some discount) because its problem in LCD Panel.

32" sylvania TV thin line

There are bad solder connections on the vertical IC. This is a small flat IC attached to a heat sink. It should have about 9-11 pins and may be marked LA7837 or something similar. Resolder the pins on this IC and that should resolve the problem.
