Dell W2600 Power Issue

I have just come off the phone to Dell Support and they have refused to replace my out of warranty TV. This is a know fault that has been on the Dell forums in their thousands since early 2005. In the US they replace the out of warranty TV with reconditioned ones or even the new models. The UK were still selling the TV's when they were replacing them out of warranty in the US! Some customers have had up to 4 replacements that developed the same fault. The problem is when you switch it off, especially using the button it will not come back on. You have to leave it disconnected from the mains for at least an hour, sometimes overnight. I have access to an electronic workshop, does anyone have a solution.

    Owner of Dell w2600 LCD TV.

    Once it's powered off, I have to wait hours and some times overnight before it will power on again. My Tech Guy said that it's the Main Digital Board that needs replacing and he can not get the parts from Dell. Do you know of anyone who would sell Part #w2600 (main digital board)?

    REPLACED!!! I have the same problem, we own 2 of them. One was replaced last year with this issue. The second one started the same issue. I called Dell and they are replacing both. Today 1.17.08 they are totally out of warranty.

    I bought this TV and had it for only 3 months before it stopped working. I can't get it to power on at all. Dell could not help me saying they do not release the schematics for the TV so I can't even find someone to work on it! If anyone knows how to fix this thing I would appreciate it! Otherwise it's expensive garbage!

    I have the same problem as every one else it seems. Sometimes after shutting it off I have to wait at least overnite for it to come back on. My only solution has been put it in standby and leave it on all the time. Of course power outages have got me a couple times on that.

    T.V. was given to me by the family of a recently deceased close friend...apparently the name of the friend is not the same as the original purchaser or on the service tag #
    Dell said if i knew the name they might repair even though it was out of warranty but... I have no idea who's name is on the invoice... Dell although did offer to replace the T.V. for a cost to me of $ 800.00 or more ...
    the original cost was much less than that and also i could buy another of greater value for that amount , one w/no issues....
    in addition , i have been trying to have a repair person fix it for me BUT,
    they declined stating that they were having problems obtaining parts from Dell and experience far too much hassle from Dell . so declined to repair it

    I'm so glad i came across this web site, I thought i was going mad. I live next door to an electricity pylon which wont let me have wireless broadband and often interferres with the TV signal. I run a digital sender up three floors so i can get sky in the loft. Last week i pressed the On button and it just clicked. I noticed as i pressed the remote the digital sender box receiver light flickered. So unplugged the tv and digital sender box, plugged TV back in, left it 10 mins and hay presto. BUT today, NOTHING, i cant turn it on at all, my tv is prob 3 year old by now, not good enough for this to happen ! I'll be on to Dell first think in the morning.

    Hi there, I posted on 10th September2008 with exactly the same problem, thanks to this site I have now been in touch with Dell TV support in the UK, phone number (0844) 338 1200. My replacement 37" yes I did say 37" not a 26" arrived today. No questions asked - Brilliant service from Dell ( and pleasantly supprised). My orgiginal was just 2 months under two years.

    Having said that, I had email the main support which is in india and they have refused to replace saying well, thinks break ! - I am still persuing this line just to see what happens ;-)

    I just got off the phone with Dell's customer service. Of course, I was on hold for nearly 20 minutes. After giving all the pertinent information regarding my Dell 26"LCD/TV, the operator (in very broken english, I might add) guided me thru all the troubleshooting steps I had done already.

    She tried pulling the old "contact your cable company" line, but I told her the cable is fine cause it's also plugged into a second tv. She then tried to explain that since it was out of warranty it could not be replaced. I didn't leave it at that and began to explain how Dell sold me a defective product and that I have had LCD monitors and TVs last longer than 2 years and how it was unfair for a loyal customer to be treated in this way. She then tried to send me off to another tech support service, but the only difference is that they were gonna charge me. I said 'No' and then asked for her supervisor.

    He tried to give the same line about 'out of warranty' and I told him that this is not an uncommon problem and that if he goggled 'Dell 26" TV not powering up', he'd see that there are a lot of consumers out there with the same problem as me.

    He then said, "Oh but the problem you speak of is with the 2600 series model not yours, yours is the 2607C." I replied, without hesitation, "But it is still part of the same series, is it not? And it looks like the same problem was overlooked when they made the one I bought."

    After that he said that he would forward this incident to someone of a 'higher' authority and that I should expect a call within 72 hours. Hopefully this will definitely replace my unit.

    So, my TV wouldn't switch on for about two weeks with this same problem. If I held the power button, it would click once, and then after pushing the power button again, it would click like it was going to turn on... but nothing. Subsequent attempts to turn on the TV wouldn't even click at all, until I held it down for 5 seconds again, but again it would only click, not turn on.


    About a month later, I tried to turn it on again and it clicked right on. So, for the next few months I just didn't turn it off. I let it go to sleep mode instead. Unfortunately, about a month ago, my friend turned it off not knowing of my issues with it. And now it won't turn back on. :( Grrr. Has anyone gotten a repaired or new TV by calling the number on the Dell Community web (http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforu...

    My situation is the same. The remote has no control over the operations. Use the power button on the side and it will turn on, if it chooses, for a few minutes. When I try to perform any operations on the menu, it turns off and I have to unplug it to get the power to reset. Most of the time, that doesn't even work. Dell's service center is so ridiculously expensive that it was cheaper for me to pruchase a LG. I would like to get the Dell fixed for another room, but not at the repair price Dell is looking for.

    I have also contacted DELL support in the UK and they gave me the impression that they were following the USA policy of replacing TVs that are up to 3 years old.



    The problem is this. I purchased my TV from www.scan.co.uk at the end of FEB 2006. So it is not yet 3 years old. However dell are saying scan purchased it from them in NOV 2005 and THIS is the date they are using for the 3 year warranty.



    I have the receipt from scan showing the TV was new and delivered to me at the end of Feb 2006 but they said that is no good.



    Guess I will have to buy another TV :(

    The same problem as others have: no power to my W2600 26". For a long-while after the TV had been in use it shut down with the remote but not com back again until a couple of hours later. Now, even if it clicks "on" no power comes to the TV set and the "off"click is not heard. To hear the latter I have to unplug the TV, and then it will gain click "on" but with no power and so on. When I say no power, I mean the LED does not light up and the screen stays black.

    I also have a Dell 2600 LCD TV I just got off the phone with a Dell Rep and was told that they are aware of this problem but there is only a 3 year period where they are replacing tvs. My tv was bought in 2005. I would think it would last more than 4 years.!

    I phoned Dell a week ago the with same problem but with no luck so far. I bought my W2600 LCD in April 2005 (with 3 year warranty) which had to be replaced in July 2006 with Power-On Problem. It has now gone again in February 2009. I spent £900 on this and I had hoped it would last at least 5 years. Has anyone had a W2600 LCD last longer than 2 years?

    Can't get it back on, I have to unplug and try to get it to work. Horrible workmanship. I have owned many TV's in my life but this the most annoying and not worth a dime.

Well i have one and it is know dead
so i took it apart and started checking stuff out
will i get good power to the signal board
I do not get 14.4 volts to the lcd the board is marked 14.4v
i do not get 22volts to the speakers.
so it is in that area

I had exactly the same problems with dell in the UK, at first they told me that as my set was 6 months out of warranty they the only thing I clould do was scrap it, but I persisted and told them that I knew they were replacing sets in the US which were out of waranty and that the set had an inherrent problem and they soon changed their mind, my set was replaced with a reconditioned unit within 1 week by special delivery, keep on ringing them and they will replace yours.

Check with this site, as if Dell is selling a product with known inherent problems over a period of time, i'm sure they have to replace the unit, but just check your rights. http://www.oft.gov.uk/Consumer/default.htm

I232 IC is the fault. A programmed chip that has to boot up in a certain order for it to trigger the powersupply to come up. The part is surface mounted and requires special tools and knowledge to remove, replace & reprogram if needed.

I have no solution but I have now joined the legion of broken W2607C owners. My LED flashes yellow or amber when power is applied, but screen remains black. Guess it helps explain Dell's stock performance.

I also had this problem with my Dell 26" LCD (Twice) first problem no power after 6 months and then the exchange / replacement they sent did the same thing after 4 months. So after 12 months of trying to find someone to repair a Dell TV with no luck, I read the posts on this site. I imediatly called Dell and after a year of sitting on the floor dead in my apartment and out of warranty Dell is finally sending a replacement. IF YOU ARE HAVING THE NO POWER PROBLEM WITH YOUR DELL W2600 LCD, CALL DELL AND GET IT REPLACED.

I had the same on a W2600 9 months out of warrenty, called them yesterday and now have a replacement sitting on my desk. Definitely worth a go to get it replaced out of warrenty.

    I realize this post is probably late now but I did come accross one of these Dell little Jewels a couple of weeks ago. After reviewing the problems everyone has had with these I have found the problem that is the fix to this issue. It is not the power supply at all. Leave it alone. The problem can be found on the logic main board. I have seen a post that it is the memory chip located at I232 but that is not the problem either and if it was most people would not be able to replace it anyway because the part is surface bond mounted which means it is not to be removed. the problem is with the LM1117 800mA Low-Dropout Linear Voltage Regulators. There are two of them located close to the main power connector and one more is located on the lower right hand area of the board. These are fine tuned and if they malfuction due to heat then they will send a signal to the power supply to shut down. They have a thermal sensor in them. The part can be replaced with several others but should be replaced with the 2.5v chip. The older the monitor has become before this problem occures may result in damage to memory chip located at I232 which will of course make these monitors trash. After all three are replaced on the locic board with exact same brand and part; you will find two small reset buttons loacted in the middle of the main logic board and those should be reset by pushing them both at the same time after power is reapplied to the unit just to reset any errors that were recorded before unit would not power on or shut off after 10 seconds. The unit is not going into standby mode; it is going into shutoff lock mode. Changing only one of these parts out will only result in the problem occuring later; ussally in 45 to 60 minutes after unit is up and running. It will either shut off or stay on but lock up and do nothing. I hope this helps someone who never gave up. Dell will not fix this problem because of the time involved. Time wise it is too expensive. Lite on made the boards inside and Samsung supplied alot of the components. It is not all Dells fault but they could have been more proactive in helping us figure out the problem.

My solution: once your TV is on do not turn it off completely but put it in sleep mode. This way the TV is never completely out of power. I have not yet tried the sleep function on the remote, but I have hooked TV to a PC and use the VGA entry mode. This way, when I put my PC in sleep mode the TV goes also. If you want to watch regulat TV, just use the remore to tune in to your channel, it will automatically take the signal. Try t and let me know. It works with me.

Dell won't do **** all.

I got one and they are more interested in a damn TAG Number.

My TV Set doesn't have a back on it so that''s a wee dram of a problem for me

Why can't they say the fault is eg. RV2 that supplies C2 or something like that

Dell are Hopeless, i wrote to them 6 times.

It's the Tag thing i can't get round

I am not into paying for phone calls, i like answers by E-mail.
It's cheaper that way.

I need you fine people to tell me what gas failed on this board so i can put it right.

    Dear Andrew,

    I have already told you the TV is not intact, it belonged to my Father who passed away in January after a 76 day illness in hospital.
    He had tried to repair it himself!
    He is dead and buried in a grave so i cannot ask him why it is not intact! I know he never had any luck with it.
    I am not sure where he purchased it from.

    I studied Electronics and have repaired TVs before.

    The Power Supply in the Dell TV 26 has a fault.
    No standbye light and when the mains switch is depressed a relay clicks, but no power reaches the set.
    This is the same fault as everyone else has suffered see www.fixya.com/support plus other web sites where people are looking for answers.

    I want to know what has failed in this set so i can repair it?

    Why can't you announce what is wrong with the TV set?

    The representitive from Dell who wrote on www.fixya.com/support failed to mention what was wrong with this TV set.

    When other companies products have failed they announce for example

    Product A has a power supply issue where the Power Supply is dead.
    The following components need to be replaced within the Power Supply.
    Replace Resistor R1 with a 36K Ohms resistor and C4 with a 47uF 25VDC Electrolytic Capacitor.

    So can you tell me what has failed in the Power Supply of the Dell TV 26 so i can get it working?

    I have written to dell about this faulty TV not powering up and find it unbeleivable that they cannot tell you what component has failed on the Power Supply.
    It's all very well replacing them with new ones.

    This means that Dell are responsible for allowing faulty TV Sets to be dumped into the Environment.

    It also means that Dell are responsible for allowing people to remove the backs from these TV Sets and exposing themselves to dangerous voltages.

    Why should their customers have to pay for phone calls.

    I put in a complaint on their web site and got asked rediculous questions about Customer Numbers and Tag Numbers etc.

    It took me nearly 2 months of writing and asking what was the problem with these TV Sets.

    Here you have a lot of people with the same fault which proves conclusively that their is a common component failure and there are web sites like this where everyone is complaining about Dell.

    That announcement by Dell (Above) is total rubbish.

    Why doesn't Dell announce what is wrong with these TV Sets so that people like myself can repair the set.

    If it is a Capacitor or a resistor, why doesn't Dell say "What Value it is and what it's circuit reference number is?

    If it is an IC Why doesn't Dell say What IC has failed and where one can be obtained, instead of this Dump the TV Set into the Environment attitude.

    If Dell doesn't know what's wrong with this TV Set by now, then they seriously want to stop dealing with the public and the Public want to refuse to have anything to do with them,

    I have had this Power Supply Board out of this TV set for more than a year wanting to know what component has failed so i can replace it and get this TV Set working?

    It is a very simple question?

    After all this time of writing they admitted that the Dell TV26 is manufactured by Samsung.

    I wrote to Samsung and they deny the TV Set is manufactured by them.

    Either Samsung or Dell is lying to the Public and i want to know the Truth.






    What exactly is wrong with this TV Set with regard to it's Power Supply so i can fix it myself?

    I can confirm that Dell is the worst Company that i have ever come across in my life and have caused me nothing but grief and i have had enough of them.

    Dell doesn't care about putting it's customers through a communications nightmare and even making them pay for phone calls.

    Dell blames another Company (Samsung)

    Dell fails to announce to the Public what components have failed within the DELL TV 26 Power Supply.

    Dell has the worst user friendly web site i have ever seen in my life.

    Dell has no Email contacts to put questions to it's company about faulty Products such as this.

    Dell doesn't care less if one or more of it's customers gets electrocuted by messing around with these TV Sets.

    I pray that no one ever deals with this Company again because all this was pointed out to them in all my emails and i could not get a straight answer from them.

    This TV Set belonged to my Father who passed away recently and Dell couldn't careless about that either.

    It's the relay itself I believe. I found one in the garbage with my boyfriend last night. He took it apart and there was corrosion around the relay prongs, so he just tapped them and it turned on. I know your post was a year ago, so I hope you figured it out, however the TV works now. While he was fixing it, he blew the fuse, so he was able to by-pass it somehow, maybe when your grandpa(RIP) accidentally blew the fuse as well. I should mention too, before he fixed it, he did hear it trying to turn on. So it's not the power supply itself, the relay or the fuse would be a good place to look first. Hope this helps!

I am having the same problem with my Dell LCD W2600 which is over 12 months old. Dell suggest will replace it with a reconditioned tv but i would have to pay some near the price of a new lcd tv. Otherwise i should contact LiteOn, the company that built the tv for Dell for them to supply the parts to me for the repairs which i could carry out myself. I am Still trying to get liteon contact information. i may have to call dell back for it.

SOURCE: Dell W2600 Power Issue

Remove power supply board and replace all caps on small piggy back boards.
I had this set given as a right off and spent two weeks chasing for a fault it would come on when i felt like it and sometimes not at all.
After removing the three small boards from the power supply and replacing all the electrolytic caps (some of them were leaky) problem solved.

This sounds like Electrolytic Capacitors that are needing replacing, Common fault with LCD, If you know how to use electronic tools you can open the TV and you will see the tops of the capacitors are bulged and they need replacing.

It is probably a power supply problem. Remove cover and check for a line fuse blown or any burnt component mainly at power supply area.

ARPI your the guru please HELP ME I just need to fix this TV

Dell will replace it if it's less than 3 yrs old but apparently their tech support people are clueless about this and have to be told what they need to look up. The replacement is a nice gesture except if you're like me and paid >$1,000 for this more than 3 yrs ago. I have had TV's > 20 yrs and don't reacall major problems with any.

W2600 click but no picture, no warranty

if power light is lit, the main board needs replaced. It needs to have firmware M016, and REV A07. Thats the latest fimware out there available.

For a used part, or a complete used set like yours, try eBay. One thing to consider, is if someone is selling a used set there is a chance that its faults, or potential faults may be the same as the one that you have.

Dell W2600 TV

I have had the Dell W2600 for about 4 years. My remote for the Dell stopped working after 16 months. Since I was using cable I used the cable box remote. However, about 6 months ago a dark shadow appeared on some parts of the screen but the tv was still viewable. Shortly after, my power light would suddenly go out and then come back on after a minute or so. The problem got progressively worse until tonight it was off for most of the show I was watching and would come back on briefly. I popped the rear cover off and removed the metal shield and found most of the wires on one of the wire harness coming from the power supply board burned so badly the insulation was gone and the plastic connector assembly on the board melted. Because of the nature of modular board construction the power supply board and wire harness would need to be replaced and that doesn't necessarily mean the cause was fixed! To me this is a safety hazard. The TV is definitely out of warranty but I wouldn't expect this type of hazard problem. FYI, the parts I can read are made in China....what's new!
