Digital SLR will not focus

I have a Olympus Evolt E-510 SLR and its been acting weird lately.
It will not focus... it just takes a picture without going through its normal process of reading the light and focusing. It seems to be worse in low light but its also doing it in the sun. It will take one good picture and then not focus the next three.
Can you advise what I can do?

I have have my camera for over two years now, and just recently it has started not auto focusing in any light.....anyone know why? Please help this is frustrating.

I have an E500 with the same issue the auto focus does not work. In addition when I do take photos the white balance is off. The flash will go off in complete sun and not go off in darker settings. (yes I have checked the flash settings) I sent the camera back to Olympus to be serviced. I paid for them to fix the issues and the camera still does not work properly. Returned the camera to them again and they tell me nothing is wrong.

Check the contacts on the lens... since it is copper and would develop copper rust... clean with iso alcohol and let air dry for an hour... clean the contacts on the camera too.

reset the camera back to factory defaults by mode dial to p, press menu, and custom reset back to factory defaults

also certain camera settings such as focus points and iso will help in low light

I have the same problem and I strong suspect the circuit board is going bad. No matter what lens I use, distance from subject, etc. makes any difference. Unfortunately, the fix is about $200.00 - and having to invest $200.00 per year to keep it going is not a viable option for anyone.

I have the Olympus E-510. I haven't used it for a while but I have recently had a baby, so I've pulled it out from its hiding spot. The problem is, when I look through the viewfinder it's all blurry and I...

First make sure that the viewfinder glass is clean. If that is not the problem, it may be that the diopter adjustment has been accidentally changed. On the right side of the viewfinder screen is a very small knob. This adjusts the focus of the viewfinder to your vision. Aim your camera at a stationary object and let the camera auto focus. Look throught the viewfinder and turn this knob one click at a time until the image is clearest to you. Hope this helps.

Olympus E-510 Flash & Auto-Focus Problems

Sounds like the main circuit board has got problems. If its under warranty use the manufacturer. But if not a camear store should be able to provide a quote. I admit that the repair will be about 150-180 because of the time involved in replacing the board and possibly the flash unit.
But quotes before bankruptcy..

How to use the Olympus 18-180mm f/3.5-6.3 ED Zuiko Digital Zoom Lens in low light.

The 510 seems to have trouble auto-focusing in low light. Manual focus works if there is enough light for your eyes.

Long delay on oly evolt 510 before taking picture in P,A,M modes

I'm guessing you have a delay set (people will use this on a tripod). The small button on the top left (next to the flash control) will solve your problem I think.

Olympus E510, Flash Flicker

If you are in a low lit area with the camera dial set to Auto the flash will do a strobing type of flash trying to help allow more light into the scene. This is called the AF illuminator function. To just go ahead and take the image, put the camera dial to P (program Auto) go to Menu - go to Wrench 1 tab - then right arrow over and then down arrow to AF Illum - right arrow and turn this function from On to Off and then take the image in the P mode setting. No flash flicker should occur.

How to use a manual zoom lens with Evolt 510

By manual zoom lens I am assuming you mean a film camera lens. If it is one of our OM 1 or 2 lenses they can be used on our Olympus digital SLR camera but you will need to purchase an MF-OM1 converter to be able to adapt those lenses to fit on our digital SLR camera. Then you will only be able to shoot using those lens in manual focus mode. Auto focus mode will not be available.

Olympus Evolt 510 LCD Issue.

I purchased a olympus evolt 510 - having problems taking picture in the dark. The camera will take 30 second to focus and sometimes will not take a picture at all. Also I find when I am in doors the camera will take a substantial amount of time to focus on an object this is specifically when the flash is in use. The flash seems to be adjusting flickering constantly. Seriously Annoying.

If you can be some assistance I would deeply appreciate it.

Best,

JP

Whirring sound when turning off olympus evolt e-510

Probably no problem. If RESET LENS is set to ON in the Wrench 1 menu, the attached lens will have its focus reset to infinity at power-off.

If IS is enabled when you turn the camera off, the IS gyro will spin down. Both of these things make some noise, but don't indicate any problem with the camera.
