My frig, a Kenmore side by side 106.56544400, has your standard Whirlpool modular ice maker. I am familiar with the ice maker operation and repair. I've done many. Mine has stopped and the problem seems to be that the power lead in the frig that plugs into the ice maker has only 83 volts across the black and white leads. This frig has the bucket in the door and the optical sensor to detect when the bucket is full any ideas as to why I would suddenly only have 83 volts?
Yes , when you measure in series with a load in an electrical circuit , you will measure the voltage loss the device causes by exerting its load on the supply power , this is what I suspect your seeing , if the optical sensor looks ok on the bucket thing , I suspect your having the old whirlpool water inlet solenoid problem , id ck that
try adding a small amount of water to ice form tray , if it makes ice in 24 hrs then yep you need a solenoid , also those tiny little sensors they use to sense where ice level is at , can be seen with the use of a simple home video camera (not your phone) , seems home vid cams are extra sensitive too IR light so you can view the light source with it to check it !!

Sounds like you have a bad water valve. It will have a dual water valve on the back where the water connects to the unit. You can take the wire plugs and swap them around. Then push the water in the door leaver. hold it for around 4 sec. Then see if the ice tray has water in it. If it does, you have a bad valve. If not you ice make is bad, turned off or the freezer is not cold enough to operate. ( It has to be 5degrees or lower before the ice maker will try to operate)
Please rate this solution if it helps. Thanks
