You need to replace the latch

Might be the power supply. That's about all I can think of. It runs but gets hot very fast and shuts down

threre is a shift control solenoid

1) LUBE the deck belt, this produce enough friction, by lack of LUBE
2) Lube the roller bearing, very well
3) Test the input voltage motor, if there are the motor need repair.
4) Test the output voltage board, for input voltage motor, if there are NOT the board is faulty.

I'm not sure if this will help.

First I was unable to identiy your model. Star Trac makes 'S Series' treadmills and Pro Tread DC (5500 Pro S model) treadmills. Can you be more specific on your model?

Second. I have used Star Trac customer service in the past and they are the best. They are responsive, and knowledgeable, and will provide troubleshooting flowcharts to help you solve your problem. I highly recommend giving them a call.

Press (incline +) and (speed +) on the control board at the same time for a few seconds.

If it resets after a few minutes something is causing it to overheat. Have you recently made any adjustments to the walking or motor belt? Too much tension on either will cause strain and overheating.

I may be too late with an answer but I think getting a used star trac is a bad idea it will nickel and dime you to death even before the years up
