Replace top loader lid hinge Maytag PAV 3240

lid safety switch not engaging,had the same problem with my atlantis.turns out the plastic hinge pin bushings in the body of the washer where the lid is hinged. breaks apart.allowing the lid to come out of alignment. easy fix and the bushing is only about 2 bucks each at an appliance parts store...

tighten the hinge screws on the top left of the lid. If that doesn't get it started hit the top to engage the lid switch which is hooked into the left hinge on a whirlpool. if its a maytag, its in the center of the rear lid and you must remove the consoles rear to access the lid switch

if it is a top loader,,,remove the screws in each end of the control panel,,,some units you have to remove the end caps to access the screws,,,then pull slightly forward on the panel and flip it back it is on hinges,,,,then remove the 2 clips that hold the back to the base,,,unplug the lid switch,,then open the lid and grab the inner lid section and pull the rear of the base towards you slightly and lift off the base,,,, then you can access the lid switch and replace it ,,,,

You should be able to remove / open the top control panel (rear top) screws and tip it out forward to gain access to the lid switch. Be careful of the small air line that goes to the pressure switch. If that comes unhooked your machine will over fill.

Most lid switches are located under the right hand side of the top panel. Some, are located adjacent to either lid hinge. In any case, you still need to remove the washer exterior case to access it. The switch is held in place with a couple of mounting screws with a ground wire attached. This is a very simple repair, but if you experience any difficutlies please let me know. pull the lid back at angle and they will fall into tub.put one side in wet the other side and try to put ball on lid and slide it back into slot for lid ball.may be a hasssle but it will go into place.

you need to remove the door hinges and the screws opposite the hinges. that will allow you to remove the front panel and the you will see the latch and the top hold down screws. once you have the top up, then you will also need to remove 2 screws that hold the latch to the upper frame. it is hard to pivot the latch out from the frame but it will come out and then you can replace the assembly.
by the way.. why are you wanting to replace the latch?? any failure codes? you might also have to replace the control board as it will fail when the door latch shorts out.
if you look at the control board you might see some of the resistors that have burnt out/ shorted out. sorry but it happens alot.
if it is less then 5 years old, then you might get it fixed under warranty for free part.

the top will lift up but there are clips that you push in with a putty knif to release top 2-3in in from side

on rear of console remove the 2 screws 1 on each corner..console lifts and rolls backif switch on right under lid remove clips on each side cabinet then lifts from back to front and lifts off if switch ic under left side of lid at rear make sure hinge scres are tight on left hinge and lid hinge is striking switch solid if not push hinge at curved section toward back of washer
