I lost the remote to my Hitachi TV and I now can't

Any Hitachi remote made over the last 15 years should work the basic functions of this model--Take a look on Ebay. Did the original get lost or stop working?

It will be difficult to match any other universal remote with this model Hitachi set. You have to get the original remote control to select all the functions with this TV. If your original remote control doesn't work at all, just buy a new one. You can get it from the authorised service center for Hitachi at your town. OK.

First do you see a light indicating that the TV has power? There are two power buttons on the TV (the main power and the regular power button). The red standby light will light up when the main power switch is on. This indicator is just to the left of the remote I/R sensor. You can find the main switch on the bottom front of the tv (it is under the tv forward of the stand). Turn on the Main power if it is not on. Then try the power button on the control panel of the TV again.

Does the standby light change color or blink? (Red is standby, orange is power savings (no signal), blue is on.) If the main switch is on and the standby light doesn't come on, the TV has a problem at the power supply. Try unplugging the unit for a bit (at least 30 seconds) and then plugging it back in. This will reset the internal circuitry. If you see a blinking light, then the TV is reporting a self-test failure. I do not know the codes for this model Hitachi Plasma TV.

I'm assuming you don't have one of the special versions that were intended for large audiences that were only controlled by remote (no control keys on the front of the TV). It is always more difficult to operate the menu features of a tv using the manual buttons on the tv. I recommend you unplug the ac cord of the tv from the wall for a day while you go out and buy a universal remote control. After plugging the tv back in and turning it on initially most television on screen prompts immediately direct you to the set up menu which includes setting the language.

Follow the instructions on the universal remote and program the remote to the tv using the power button on the remote to determine if you have reached the right code. It will then be possible to operate the menu features of the tv via the remote control and thus change the language back to english.

1st step, replace battery of remote, no result, 2nd step, check / replace Remote Sensor of TV.

I can not remember the nu mbers to program in the TV for the remote. I can turn on the VCR but not the TV. I know it is somehting simple like s ymbol/2 or 4/tv but it has not been working

You need the original remote. There is no other access, Look up the Hitachi home page on the net. Go to their support. You can order a new remote from them.

Hi the codes for hitachi are 0074,0082,0081,0511,0201,0616,0234,0236,0255,0232,0554,0110,0537,0075,0594,0147,0216,0143,0550,0518 turn on tv, 1.press tv button on the remote 2. press setup button until it flashes twice enter code then turn off by power button (keep repeating 1-3 until tv goes off) hope this helps.
