Hello
Only a two prong wire is needed for any TV to switch on. A three prongs are used for electrical equipments like Mixie, Grider and son, to get onw of the prngs to earth point to avoid accidents due to electric shock. Even though, your tv is provided a three prong wire for its power supply, only two of them are used inside the tv to work on. One amoung them are set free inside the TV. You kust try by replaceing the present wire by a new one. If the problem perists, inform me through Fixya, with as much as details you can send. OK.
This is a common problem on certain models of Philips Magnavox TV sets. The most common symptom is the screen will shrink and expand over and over. After the TV heats up for a while the video will work like normal. After a few weeks or months your TV will eventually stop working and not have video. sounds like the green CRT ( picture tube) is shorted. Please respond to this same post with the model number of your set and I will try to help you out with your problem.
That is an ITC008 chassis and the problem you're referring to is called a breathing picture. One fault I am aware of in this chassis/model is the connector Bl103. I have seen a couple where the connector failed and had to be replaced. Could open it up and locate the conntector and see if it's vibration sensitive.

Your TV has sevral loose connections in the tuner circuit as this is a common issue with the chassis you have in it. It is not an issue for the novice to repair. You will need a technician to look at it.
Usually when the vertical starts shrinking slowly, it is due to capicators getting out of tolerance in the vertical output section of the chassis. If it can be adjusted out through a service menu, you'll probably need a tech with the right equipment to perform it.
