Hi...would appreciate it...so much...if anyone can tell me how to get a stuck beater out of the mixer...soooo stuck...I ask everyone that comes over to try and get it out...no luck!
I took the advice from: http://forum.kitchenaid.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6356
I put a wash cloth in a pot of boiling water and used tongs to wrap it around the beater shaft while the mixer was resting on its side. When the wash cloth was not too hot to touch, I put it back in the boiling water and did it again. I was then able to easily remove the beater.
I would suspect that it has become stuck on the shaft. It depends on what is sticking to what you should use. If it is some sort of food, then soaking it for a while (20-30 mins) with fantastic would loosen it. If its seems to be dry welded, then I'd use something more like liquid wrench (automotive section). Just remember that the locking mechanism requires that you push the beater up, then turn, then pull. so look at the exposed portoin of the beater and see if you can tell what part of the j-channel the pin is located will tell you which way it needs to be moved. I would be not afraid to tap it will a soft mallet (wood or plastic) but not with anything too hard (steel).
WD40
The problem I had was the small pin that sticks out from the shaft. It seems a fraction too long and was preventing the beater turning so that the pin slides into the grove where the beater would move down. I tried hot water, oil, WD40 ... all many many times. In the end, out of frustration. I wrapped the beater in a wet (for extra friction) tea towel and bashed it with my heaviest rolling pin. It took a dozen REALLY heavy whacks (I'm 120+kg) and eventually came loose. A small chip of metal from inside the beater where it touches the pin fell out. This is an obvious design fault. I filed down the pin... just a little... and now all my attachments slide on and off easily. Lastly I turned the mixer on and it's working... Phew!

I have the same problem. My stand mixer is a year old. Now suddenly the wire whip is stuck and can't remove it to wash. It still works but I have to clean it without pulling out the wire beater, which is very inconvenient.
