Air conditioner in my Mercury Mountaineer 2005 stops cooling.

When I turn on my Air conditioner. It blows perfectly fine, but somewhere along the line while im driving the vehicle, the front air vents will stop blowing air out of them. I can still hear the AC running and the back vents blow out cold air as well but the front vents do not blow anything out. I can turn off the ac and turn it on again and the ac will blow cold ac again but will stop blowing within minutes. Can anyone help?

I have the same problem with my 2005 Mercury Mountaineer AWD Premier, except when I turn the fan on higher it sounds like it is blowing very hard but a door or something wont allow the air to come out..Sound is coming from the passenger side inside the dash..sometimes it blows so cold it looks like snow is coming out...lol..but after about 20 - 40 min then is starts acting up again as you stated..If I discover my problem I will let you know.

SOURCE: AC blows hot air but AC compressor works

if the compressor works and your freon is charged it may be the blower flapper door....disconnect battery for 10 minutes and then re-connect to reset the electronics that control the flapper

SOURCE: ac not blowing cold air.

Sounds like the compressor has failed.

SOURCE: ac compressor cuts on and off and no cool air blows out .

Too many reasons why but it probably needs to go in for repair. compressors will cycle on and off if the system is under or over filled. If there is a flow restriction, a collapsed high pressure hose, clog somewhere in the system(some vehicle owners put sealant or refrigerant with sealant in it) bad idea. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis will only blow hot air when ac is on

needs re-gassing because one line should be hot (feed) and the return cold , This is a specialist job do not attempt to do it yourself because its extremely dangerous with very high pressures involved

I have a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer Premier 4.6 liter. A/C blows cold however the blower in dash cuts on and off thru dashboard from 0-50 works fine above the blower in dash doesn't blow.

Strange for blower but not unusually for compressor. The usual high or low limit switch would cut off the compressor but not the blower. Maybe check alternator and battery voltage to see if there is a voltage problem. The blower motor resistance switch is problematic but I have not heard of one acting like yours.

Air conditioner on driver side blows hot air some times

Check the fuses that control the climate control system. If they are in good shape check the vacuum lines that control the system. GM vehicles usually have a black ball that the vacuum lines go into somewhere under the hood to control the system start there and check al the lines and controllers.

Heater temp on mercury '98 mountaineer only blows hot

Everything that is heat and cooling in a vehicle is controlled by vacuum from the engine. It appears to me that your blend door vacuum line to the temp control switch is either off or cracked/broken and not making things work the way you want/expect. It's the vacuum friend.
