Problems with the Astar TV turning on

My Astar TV has problems turning on for whatever reason. The green light will come on but the picture however will not. To get the TV to turn on I have to turn the main power off and on several times.

26" Astar LCD Television. 2 years old.

All of a sudden we have difficulty turning the TV on. when the light is flashing... turn it on... black screen and eventually sound. Turn it off, wait, turn it on, logo comes up and then shuts itself off. Turn off the main power switch and turn on, then turn on the TV and it will come on and work. Unless I follow this routine I cannot use the Television. I bought this TV at Best Buy. Who can I get to repair it for me since I wouldn't know a capacitor to see one let alone the right ones.

I can't find 100uf 450WV capacitors anywhere. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Tv won't turn on. Had this a year ago and Astar sent me a black box for the back and it worked fine until a week ago. Where to I go since Astar is out of business.

My astar is completely out now. I took it in and they said it was the
power supply. I have owned this t.v. for 2 years now and the first
year it was in the shop for 3 months waiting for a power supply which
was on backorder. Now a year later the same problem, except now they
can't replace the part they actually have to fix it, which would cost
double of what it would be to replace it. I don't want more problems
in another year, so I just bought another t.v. with an extended
warranty. Anyone know how to get the part, I would love to know, so I
can get some money back and sell it. Or if anyone else wants to buy it
    for parts, let me know.

When I first bought this tv, I had the same problem. In addition, if it would come on, it had multicolored check pattern on the screen. The tv was replaced twice under warranty and after over 3 years am having the same problem. Am not very hopeful to get a solution. Neddless to say, I will never buy an ASTAR product again.

    power supply

  • Anonymous Mar 13, 2009

I just bought one of these cheap that would not turn on. Previous owner said he had replaced the main power switch that was heating up. Said that worked for about two months and then quit again. Told me about this capacitor story on this sight. Benn in electronics for 30 years and this all just seemed like a bogus internet story.

Opened it up and the the switch had been replaced and this new one was bad too, plastic switch was starting to melt. I can just figure a cheap switch and really poor solder job. Replaced switch and monitored current with a really nice power meter. Tag says 200W, but tis only draws 132W on bright backlight and down to 62W on dark backlight. Not a sign of power supply problems. This has a really good power supply with power factor control. Surprised at the very low harmonics this introduces on the power line.

OK HERE'S THE DEAL WITH THE ASTAR YOU ALL SPEAK OF THE PERSON FROM SOLUTION 3 IS RIGHT IT'S A POWER SUPPLY ISSUE WE'VE GOT 130 OF THESE I'VE FIXED 40 OUT 44 POWER SUPPLIES. IF ANY OF YOU HAVE SOME SKILLS WITH SOLDERING. THE MAIN PROBLEM IS IN THE CAPACITORS. THERE ARE 3 SETS OF CAPACITORS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED. 4 3300uf 35v, 8 2200uf 25v, 7 1000uf 10v. ONCE YOU REPLACE THESE YOU SHOULD BE GOOD TO GO. THE OTHER 4 WE HAVE PROBLEMS WITH ARE STILL POWER SUPPLY ISSUES BUT ALITTLE MORE IN DEPTH WILL POST WHEN WE FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM.

This may be too old of a problem for anyone to still have one of these. I found that the computer control still functions, but, the screen circuitry warms up very slowly (like 20 minutes or more). If the TV changes to a mode that has no signal it times out and shuts down (See question about Invalid input message). The green light stays on and the screen dims. If you can get it in the right mode eventually streaks appear and tries to build a picture. Use the buttons on the front under the screen because when the TV gets this bad the remote won't be detected for several minutes. Locate the black switch on the back labeled 1 0. Flip it off and back on and full picture will return. The trick is knowing what mode its in. Change the capacitors as suggested

I know I am late on this post but I had the same problem with an astar ltv-2601. I just replaced 8 puffed up(bad) capacitors in power supply and has been good since about 4 months. They went out of business because they copied philips design and were sued by them. You get what you pay for.

EVERYONE LISTEN UP, REPLACE THE CAPACITORS, AND YOU'LL BE FINE. My 2701 was out of commission for 7 Months, and I just replaced the Capacitors. Now It was my first time doing it. Just reviewed some YOUtube videoson doing capacitor replacements/removal, and I was good to go. Just pay attention to where the Negative STRIP is on Capacitors and Solder away, and if you want an all in one solution, scan ebay for Desolder/Soldering Iron 40w/Solder Type in Soldering Desoldering and its about 15.00. GOOD TO GO

Eclip66 is right, ive opened up my Astar TV aswell and have taken a look at the power supply, all of the capacitors he mentioned have bubbled tops (means they are blown) or are leaking their electrolyte all over the board.. in addition to the capacitors he mentioned, there are 3 other near the center of the board with little plastic disks covering them.. i checked these using an ohm meter and found they were also bad (they charged WAY to slowly and were also leaking) so in addition to the 4x 3300uf 35v, 8x 2200uf 25v, 7x 1000uf 10v.. you need 3x 100uf 450wv caps as well. Im in the process of locating some replacement caps and am about to change them out, if this solution does not work, and i find more problems ill be sure to make an updated post.. happy soldering!

Hello former Astar guy... are you still around? I have two LTV-32ASB TV's that have failed with the same problem... they have sound but no picture after being turned on for a while. I'm assuming the LCD controller board is the issue, but maybe you know better. Is the LCD controller the "main board"? Any idea where I might find this part, or whatever part it is that I need? Thanks.
