Only suggestion is if set was plugged in when you did what you did--unplug it and any box or receiver plugged in and wait a while--plug back and let the equipment try to reboot.
based on what you have said the issue is related to the main board which processes all signal in the set and directs it to the screen--what I would call some sort of digital processing issue----the issue may cause it to have less of a problem with menu etc as are generated inside the set.---if you took this set apart a plug or cable may have come loose--if look again--look for one that is secured/taped where it plugs into a board.

SOURCE: BLACK SCREEN, AUDIO OK
I have samsung 40" LCD tv and it's happening the same thing. I turned it on and it last for 5 minutes and the screen went back but the audio is fine. I turned off and turned it back on it worked fine but an hour later it happen again.
SOURCE: vertical lines across my entire screen
My 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV HP-R4252 has a 2" vertical strip of green pixels down the right side of the screen.
My 3 year warranty with Circuit City expires in Nov 2008.. so I hope I'm covered.. can't call until the morning.
Samsung said it might be a logic board problem.. but they want almost $2000 to fix. I might as well buy another TV if Circuit City can't fix it.
SOURCE: DVD plays only in black and white
Hey, I had this problem on Thanksgiving Day, trying to watch a dvd on my mother's HDTV. You should be able to hook up most standard dvd players to hdtvs. First you have 3 cords, mine were red, yellow, and white. The connections go as follows:
HDTV:
Audio| Component. The white cord should be in a white audio slot. The yellow cord should be in a yellow component slot (video) and the red cord should be in a red video component slot labeled Pr/Cr. Make sure you match the component numbers. For instance, if you want to use component one, then hook all of the cords into the slots for component one. Most hdtvs have multiple component hookups ( think multiple "channels" for your game system, dvd player, etc) so it's important that the corresponding cords go to the correct component slots.
DVD:
Match the yellow and white cords to the appropriately colored slots. The red cord should go into the slot labeled component video out Cr/Pr. Not the red audio out. This worked for me. Hope this helps.

Such a god damn joke that Hitashi can sell such a lemon part and know about it. On top of that, not help at all getting the part fixed... I mean honestly? How is that even remotely legal?

Now the TV is still white but it flickers in the input menu(no signal)menu, It's flickering like it did when the colors were messed up when it went white from black, Iv'e noticed the TV does not show darker colors, but light colors Show up fine, Such as skin,Red,white, etc, When it comes to black it gets a fuzzy rainbow color or sometimes just a solid pixel like of colors, but only on the edges of say a person, or the wheel well of a car or the shadow, or a pupil on a eye, Everything else is normal(that's not an edge), but when ever there is a very bright screen, or picture, All this goes away and everything shows up fine. But the side of the screen remains white when it's supposed to be black. And i noticed something extremely weird, when you open the menu and it's partialy full screen, everything seen through the menu screen goes back to normal, No fuzzy colors, white from before is now black, things you watch from any kind of brightness show up normal.. I do not know what it is, i have never experienced this type of phenomenon before with a HDTV..Or any flat screen technology.. Especially one that fixes it self when you have the menu screen over it.
