every once in a while I get sucked in by this site when I really need info I can't find. Every time I check this site, I am disappointed by a site that lures you in and provides no help-just ads....It looks like a forum but the content doesn't warrant all the ads. For all that ad revenue, you would think that the user 1) wouldn't have to pay 2)could afford to find some experts....bad business...
if you have a Sony LCD projection ..Theres good chance optical block needs replacing .This spot will get bigger and will eventually cover most of screen the longer you use it .needs repair. If there is no warranty on this unit..I would estimate repair around 6- 8 hundred dollars ..
Yes that is beyond what you want to spend. That is the LCD display. Depending on sizes they can start at $ 600.00 and go up to $ 3700.00. I just checked on your model and the LCD display will cost $960.00, that's the price of a new set.
This problem was probably there before, but you only noticed with the new "Brighter" bulb.
This TV will require replacement of the LCD Prism unit.
This Prism blocks and allows colors so that the 3 LCD images may be mixed to produce the final image you see on the screen. When this becomes damaged or defective, it leaks colors (light). This Color Leakage apears as spots on the screens.
Where you see the spots is where the specific spot on the prism that is leaking light, the specific color that is leaking also.
This parts cost alone is normally $500 to $1000 dollars but is usually replaced under warranty. If out of warranty, I suggest living with it or selling it if out of warranty.
Turn down the Brightness and it will not be as noticeable. I am sure you only see this with bright images.....like white backgrounds and such
I am not surprised that Sony would not admit that there are more problems with this model of their HD televisions.
I just had a service repair technician from an authorized Sony repair store examine the problem and he came to the same conclusion - the optic block needs to be replaced. Apparently it cannot be taken out and cleaned - it has to be replaced.
The estimated cost of the repair is approximately $1,400 Canadian dollars. I got a written estimate from the service technician and i will be writing Sony Canada a letter (and including a copy of the estimate) to ask them what they are going to do about this.
I had the same problem and had a tech check it out.
It turned out to be dust on lens and mirror.
cleaned them and good as new.
Ihope this works for you.
