SOURCE: I have just replaced the door seal on my freezer

Hi yestermorrow,

Thank you for using Fixya. A nifty idea you can try is to adjust your front level feet upwards. This will allow the door to lean against the fridge. It does not need to be adjust upwards too much though. It is a solution that will make sure the door seals against the fridge, as well as not having to replace anything.

Another thing you MUST do is run boiling hot water all over the seal (Remember towels for the spillage) This will allow the rubber to expand, and become soft for extra sealing.

To answer your question regarding how it locks, it locks with suction. If the seal is sealing all around the door area (Soft seals a must for good sealing), it will create a semi-vacuum area inside the fridge (Thus the sucking sound when opening a fridge door)

I really hope this has helped you. :-)

Can the door opening be reversed

Most refrigerators and freezers have the option of door reversal......look on the opposite side of the door and there should be screw holes under plastic plugs....which will enable you to swap the hinge to the other side. Here are a few pics for reference.

Frigidaire upright freezer door will not seal

Hi Chris, this is AP! Thank you for your post.

I understand you are having trouble with the door sealing on your upright freezer. Many times this can be caused by the freezer not being leveled. If the freezer is not leveled during installation, the door may be misaligned and not close or seal properly, causing cooling, frost, or moisture problems. To level your upright freezer use a carpenter's level to level the freezer from front-to-back. Adjust the plastic leveling feet in front, 1/2 bubble higher, so that the door closes easily when left halfway open. I hope this information has been helpful.

Things don't freeze on the top shelf right hand side of the door. Also have small amount of water that drips after freezer is opened. This is a manual defrost freezer 20 cu foot freezer

I would suspect the door seal is not making contact or has some defect in it. And that defect is probably in the top right corner of the door. If you have a thermomiter, wait until the compressor kicks in and then slowly run it around the door seal. There should be some area that is colder than the rest. If I am right, then you will need to replace the seal.

I have a kenmore upright freezer model #253.9266411 there is a gap in the upper left side does anyone know how to adjust the door? The seal is fine

I'm assuming you don't want to replace the door seal. Open the freezer door. Stand "inside" the open door and place your foot at the right bottom corner (looking from the inside). Place your hand in the top right corner and pull it very slightly toward you. Do this in small amounts until the gap closes making sure you don't open one at the bottom.

An alternate method is to warm the gapped section of the door seal with a hair dryer to soften the rubber enough to allow the magnet within the rubber to pull the seal gap closed. This has worked for me numerous times by making small adjustments at a time. Good Luck

My Maytag side by side fridge freezer is leaking at the bottom and ice is collecting at the bottom of the freezer. I cannot find any model number but think it's about 6 years old

The drain is clogged behind the wall in the freezer you can do one of three things take the back wall inside the freezer off and thaw the drain in the bottom and clear it out,Pay someone else to do this,or you can mover your food for a day unplug the unit open the freezer door and leave it off for 24 hours allowing the ice to clear from the drain, seems to happen about every five or six years with Maytags..

Will not seal. new from sears.

The description below is for a gap at the top of the door. Adjust the procedure for gap at bottom by "twisting" the door in the opposite direction.

Kenmore upright freezer not cold enough to freeze

Sounds like a door seal that isn't sealing all the way around. That would be my first replacement. Is the unit level back to front and side to side? Is it really full of food?

Call your local appliance parts house and get a magnetic door seal first. They aren't that expensive. But make sure you do not have the freezer overloaded, which could account for the lack of that vacuum sound.

Finally, is self defost? Even if it is, a lot of times the vent on the bottom in the back gets packed with ice. If it is, remove the food and use a hairdryer, being carefull to unplug the freezer first. Melt all that ice and empty your overflow tray at the bottom underneath.

Good luck!

How to replace the door seal on a frigidare upright freezer

most fridge door seals are attached to the door by screws. If you flap the seal up from the bottom you should see some screws. if you go to the site below it gives your guidance on replacing the seals on fridges, as all fridge seals are pretty generic you should find it useful
