Error message on my canon pixma ip1600 (18 yellow lamp flashes) tells me that my genuine canon ink cartridge is not recognised. Canon help desk unable to say whether the fault lies with my ink cart or my printer and referred me to their contract repairer whose quoted price was almost twice the purchase price. Anyone else know what the answer is? Is it my ink cart or my printer that's faulty, please?
I posted the original problem. Although the cartridge was genuine I had taken it out and reinserted it as I wasn't sure I had loaded it correctly the first time. Advice from my local retailer was that this was a mistake. Canon PIXMA printers no longer recognise a cartridge once it has been removed. Solution was another new cartridge which I shan't remove until it's empty. When this second cartidge is empty I shall try the first cartridge again as it is still full and unused. It has yet to print anything! Why Canon's helpdesk couldn't help is a mystery. I conclude that Canon's printer management systems are unfriendly to users. They are friendly only to Canon. I hope my experience will help others especially those considering buying a Canon printer. dudbob
Who ever told you that you cannot take out an ink cartridge and put it back is an idiot to say the least, I bet its your "ink man". Of couse you can take out your ink cartridge and put it back. Mind you the head of the cartridge might be faulty, take it back to the person who sold it to you and get it replaced. If it is a genuine cartrige Canon will replace it for him.
Most probably has been damaged.
ink cartrigde is damaged due to followin causes--
1. over heating of head due to bulk printing
2. mishandling the cartridge.
3. repeated refillings
try this if you want to use this cartrigde again, it may work
1. clean the golden contact points with isopropyl alcohol of cartrigde as well as the cartridge holder
2. remove cartrigde and install again after some days
possibility of fault in printer is minimal,
