It is likely either a dirty optical pickup in the unit or a bad one--they do sell cleaning kits--if a disc was used that had some dirt etc on it it may have caused this issue.
The problem is in the laser pickup assembly, buy a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions, it may help buy more time if not! replace the player not cost effective to repair.
Some rented discs won't play becauses of scratches and dirt, if other DVD 'S work it is not your player, but if all won't play try a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions.
Your DVD drive lens may have a problem reading data from the Disc.
The first simplest solution is to find a way to clean the drive lens
(may involve opening the unit). While you're at it, vacuum all the dust
inside the player. I use a Q-Tip with a DVD cleaning solution to clean
the lens. In the worse case, it's time for a new Player.
Just to make sure that you are not playing a pirated DVD's, because there are some DVD players that won't play for pirates ones. But if you are playing an Original DVD's but still have the issue.
I would suggest to by a lens cleaner you can buy it to the nearest market in your town, I can guarantee that your DVD lens might be a little dirty.
Don't worry everything will be just fine after you buy a DVD cleaner.
There is either a problem with your discs or the targus unit so first: put in a disc and if it says that it's corrupt then take it out and try to play it in something else that you know works. Then if it does play, it's the targus unit's fault. If it does not play then your discs are bad.
