Vertical Lines and Ghost image then powers off

My Samsung LN-S4695D 46" lcd HD Tv is having a bit of a problem.  After the tv has been on for a little while it will with no warning get a bunch of vertical lines of all colors across the entire screen.  They vary in width from about 1/4" down much smaller.  They will usually stay on the screen for about 10 seconds and then the screen goes black except for a green box about 10"x15" in the upper left corner of the screen.  The entire unit then powers off and after a couple of minutes you can power it back on.  It is hooked up to a HD satellite box hdmi.  However it does the same thing when I am playing my PS3 which is hooked up component.  Any help, or do I just need to have it repaired.

SOURCE: vertical lines across my entire screen

My 42" Samsung Plasma HDTV HP-R4252 has a 2" vertical strip of green pixels down the right side of the screen.

My 3 year warranty with Circuit City expires in Nov 2008.. so I hope I'm covered.. can't call until the morning.

Samsung said it might be a logic board problem.. but they want almost $2000 to fix. I might as well buy another TV if Circuit City can't fix it.

Green vertical lines across screen

It will be best to contact the authorized service center for Samsung in this case. They only can provide the component.

Samsung LN-S4695D LCD WON'T TURN ON BUT POWER LIGHT IS ON ?

I would recommend you get a professional diagnosis. There is high voltage present in the set that can harm you. Being that you never messed with a TV, you could possibly cause more damage to your set. These flat panel TV contain sensitive circuitry. What you are describing sound like a fault with either the power supply or main board.

I have a 46 inch samsung tv ..model #lns4695d and the picture has a lot of static, but has sound. Can someone tell me what the problem may be?

If you have a picture and it is all staticy and pixelated, then it probably is coming from the service your connected to these newer sets are much different today.

There's very little chance of an LCD TV having a "60 cycle hum". That problem was a hazard of CRT TVs and is rarely seen on LCD TVs and even when it is, it's mainly a problem with the RF feed and not the TV itself.

Try hooking up various inputs one at a time. For example try component input from a VHS tape player. Then try HDMI input for a HD player (Blu-Ray or HD-DVD). Then try a computer hooked up to the VGA input (set your video output on the computer for the native resoilution of your TV). Make sure you have the inputs selected correctly for each source.

The standard "refresh" rate for your TV is 60 Hz but that is a bit of a misnomer as LCD TVs don't used a raster scan for their display so their "refresh" is typically measured in miliseconds, in your case it is 8ms.

Your problem could be a power supply problem or if the lines are static, it could be an addressing problem in the ATSC decoder chip.

There are many other possiblilities but with more data on your symptoms, I wouldn't like to guess.

Hope this helps.

Extra port door cover

It is an extra bottom cover if ever the one in your TV is accidentally broken. You can replace it with that part.

Samsung LN-S4692D - Vertical lines (>15) & static on screen

this sounds like a scan board gone ,, if you check ebay youll see two things,
1, other tvs for sale with the same fault (It might give you a clue to the fault ie , which board )
2, the same tv as yours with a broken screen ,

i dont know how good you are with taking things to bits but i personally would buy the tv with the broken screen and start swapping over the internal boards ?

Have you checked your home insurance policy for broken tv,s
it may have fell of its stand when you were'nt looking?
