Dark screen
If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LEDflashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faultyinverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow myinstructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

Do you get the same result if its plugged in or running off battery? Try holding down the "FN" key or function key and using one of the Function keys i believe its F6 on the sony's to brighten up your screen if that doesn't work try downloading and reinstalling your video driver and finally you may have a video card issue

Hi - I have replaced lots of LCD screens,it can be done
HOW TO REMOVE LCD PANEL OF MY ACER LAPTOP.
First ===>>> Remove all power and battery
Each machine is different in construction and size,
but they operate in the same fashion, motherboard, power inverter, lcd panel and cable connecting them together, also there may be a wireless aerial and or camera as well inside the lids frame housing the lcd screen so be careful while dismantling the front frame,it should be a good tight fit,
the lid has a base and a front panel covering the workings of the screen and wiring in a compact frame, remove the screws from the front panel and lift the front frame free from the base, remove the power panel by the screen next to the keyboard this should expose the motherboard insides, then unplug the inverter from the screen, unscrew the screws holding the the frame and carefully lie the screen on a flat surface to unplug the data cable from the rear of the screen, top of the screen rear contains IC chips required to make the pictures,
DO NOT TOUCH THESE >>> STATIC KILLS
It dosent mater if the screen is already dead just remember this when you fit the new screen
Hope this helps,Misterdj

Basically remove all screws holding the front bezel (screws are behind the rubber thingies). Once you have pried off the bezel there are several screws on each side of the screen. Removing these will be needed, along with any remaining screws on the top and bottom. Once the screen can be leaned forward, with a sheet of paper towel, on the keyboard. There is a long connector at the top of the screen; remove this connector. Another smaller connector is at the bottom, remove it as well. This ought to get you well on your way!
