Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer Won't Turn On

My washer will not turn on. I have loaded it. Pushed the control on button and pushed and held the start button, but no light is coming on, nor is it showing any signed ofo starting. The door is shut and locked and the machine is plugged in. Nothing that I know has changed since the last load was run two days ago. The electric duet dryer stacked on top of the washer is working fine.

We're having the same problem. Technicial came by, couldn't even run diagnostics. Have to wait 10 days for parts to arrive and for him to come back. I'll never by Whirlpool again

    Hello,
I use my machine an average of 4 loads per day. We bought it May 2004. Since Jan. 08, after my machine turned on, I could "hear" that the door latch was having problems attaching. The machine would stop and I would get a DL prompt (door was not shut properly). I would open the machine and shut it again or simply push the door in with my hip. Then the machine would then continue.

This past weekend, the machine suddenly would not turn on. There was no light or indication that it was receiving electricity. I continued to re-open and shut the door several times and it would work sporadically. I did about 4 loads this way over two days. I also cleaned the door attachment and tried to see if something was blocking the latch area. The next day, this method did not work so my husband reset the circuit breaker. It worked for us this way for one day (3 loads). Now the machine did not respond at all yesterday and the laundry is piling up!

Upon inspection, it is believed the trouble is with the latch. We went to Google to find out if this is a regular issue with Whirlpool customers and it appears that it is.

Our model number is: GHW9100LW2. Serial: CSR0705891
This site says it is not a valid product but I assure you, it is sitting in my laundry room with this number. Is it "DD" or "zero zero" or "letter O letter O"?

We had to replace the gasket a year ago. This machine does not bode well for reliability.

unplug from outlet then remove the three screws from the bottom panel on the front. Then reach up towards the latch inside and pull the tear shaped tab

This machine does not care if any of the doors or switches are open or broken off as suggested. it will still power on when you hit the Control on. (verified)

Be sure it is getting power, plug something else into that ac plug.
I don't know about the dryer but if it is also 100volt and plugged into the same socket
then you should not run both at the same time.
but it is very likely the dryer is 220volt and plugged into another larger AC socket.

My washer is 2 years old and the locking electronic mechanism just went out on it. Sounds like that may be the problem-its a $250 part. What a ripoff- the machine is only 2 years old!

Little black button on inside of door, machine upper right (about 1 o'clock) position may be broken off.

Tool: We cut a piece a wire about 10 inches long from a wire clothes hanger. On one end we bent 1/2 inch of the wire in a 90 degree angle with needle nose pliers. On the other end of wire we put another bend at least three inches.(this end will be your handle end) Process of using homemade tool to release latch: Make sure washing machine is on a wash cycle. Use flash light to locate latch in the locking catch. Insert the small bend of the tool into the locking catch. Then hook onto the latch and pull out --apply a small amount of pressure -- about three lbs of pressure) Then at the same time you are pulling, press in on the door release button (the little white button above the latch hole where you now have the wire inserted). As your are pulling with little pressure on the latch, hold the little white button in and press the start /stop button. You should hear the door lock. Let machine start working. (about ten seconds) Now push start/stop button again and you should hear door lock release. Your lock catch should give away. This worked for us.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washer Won't Turn On

MY WASHER WAS DOING BASICALLY THE SAME THING. I HAVE A WHIRLPOOL FRONT LOADER MODEL #GHW9460PL0. MY HUBBY REMOVED THE 3 SCREWS FROM THE BACK OF THE WASHER, UNPLUG IT FIRST, AND TOOK THE TOP OFF. WE THEN CAREFULLY UNPLUG THE WIRES AND REPLUGGED THEM BACK IN 1 BY 1 SO U WONT GET THEM MIXED UP. WE THEN TRYED IT, AND THE CONTROL LOCKED LITE STAYED LIT. HE HELD THE SIGNAL CYCLE BUTTON IN FOR 3 SECONDS AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. WE THEN TRYED RUNNING A CYCLE AND SO FAR SO GOOD!! GOOD LUCK!

Whirlpool Duet front load washer

If you push the end of cycle button for 5-6 secs. It turns the control lock on, do it again, and it turns the control lock off, on both the washer and the dryer

What at exactly is the signal button. The washer was working until I pulled it out and replaced the water hoses. Now what--- I cannot find my manual----this is the first year model

The cycle signal button on the right side of the control panel controls the volume of the beeping after a load in finished..But It also LOCKS the control panel if pushed and held in for 3 seconds..So push and hold in again for 3 to 4 seconds to unlock and you should be good as new......
