TV won't stay turned on, no picture, started making high pitched noise

We used the TV yesterday AM without problem. In the evening we found that power button light on front of TV would flicker briefly then go out, no power to the screen. Tried turning on manually and with remote. We tried unplugging and reconnecting as suggested in the manual, no change. Then it started making a high pitched noise which stopped when we unplugged it.

My RCA has been turning itself off and on for a few days now. It has a history of the picture shrinking horizontally then snapping back to full size. Sounds like the transistor problem mentioned here. My question now is: Is it worth fixing? It's 6 years old.

lameastra, we just encountered the same problem as you. Our RCA F27650 32" TV was working this afternoon. When we got home this evening and tried to turn it on, the TV would not turn on and the power light blinked green several times then stopped. We also heard a clicking sound each time it blinked. We tried unplugging everything and turning on the TV, but that did not work. The toll free RCA troubleshoot department has been no help either. We would greatly appreciate any assistance on this!

That high pitched noise you're hearing is the power supply telling you that it has too much of a load on it and lowered its operating frequency which in effect cuts its output way down! Normally you don't hear any thing since the power supply operates at a frequency that's beyond human hearing. In an RCA this indicates more than likely that your horizontal output transistor is shorted and this short was caused by the flyback transformer shorting. This is a common happening with RCA's You'd need to take to a tv shop and have it checked out. Stargazer

I turned on my Samsung PN51D7000FFXZA recently it had no picture and started making a high pitch buzzing noise coming from inside the tv. What could be causing this?

Unfortunately, it's probably the power supply board. Usually one of the transformers or coils on that board.

Get a quote from a TV repair shop, should be able to quote without bringing it in. Check reviews on the repair shop.

Don't open it up yourself! There are hazardous voltages even when the TV is unplugged!

High pitch buzzing.

Hi there
Let's make ur problem a bit clear. "white lines" how? where?
meaning retrace lines with full raster or a single vertical line?
buzzing sound? without even turning the power switch of the TV to "ON" or when u just plug the power cord?
I'll check for schema, mean while can u tell me where the resistor leads to? is it a fusible resistor? if so , to which area the resistor suppliers power?

High pitched noise

The power supply is starting to fail on your LCD. The noise you hear is because the circuit is trying to provide the proper power to the rest of the circuitry and is forcing itself.
The noise does increase if you tune to an HD channel because of more demand for power for a brighter picture.
Let me know if you need further assistance.

Hi there

Try replacing the electrolytic capacitors in the power supply section. I started with replacing (2) 860uf 180v caps just after the bridge rectifier and continued along the circuit. Some (15) or so capacitors later,it finally cleared the the horizontal bars and lines and the high pitched noise. It also fixed another intermediate problem of no video, when turning on the power.

Here is a picture of what they look like:
